We think this is terrific news! Cruise ships have been destroying the fragile foundation of Venice with water and air pollution, erosion of the land and massive crowds. One step towards stopping over tourism. Let’s hope other places follow suit.

Today is World Pangolin Day which is meant to raise awareness of this most remarkable animal, sadly the most trafficked animal in the world. Over 100.000 pangolin each year (over 600k in last four years) fall prey to greedy traffickers and are sold to China and Vietnam for meat - illegally. These peaceful and shy mammals deserve better - to live freely in the wild. Throw back to today, three years ago when my 10-week old pup Kona hopped in the pedicab of The Mark Hotel and then caught the eye of Preferred Hotels and was featured in the Preferred Hotels brochure! Swipe for his ‘celeb’ feature. Now at three years old and 70 pds, Kona would take up the whole pedicab. Did you know that guests (furry four-legged ones too!) of the Mark Hotel in New York City have complimentary Bergdorf Goodman Express pedicabs that take them to the luxury... department store (and wait for you to pedal your purchases back to the hotel)? Meet Jonathan. He was born in 1832. That makes him a mere 189 years old and at this age, he has seen it all. When he was born the lightbulb hadn’t even been invented yet! Jonathan is a Seychelles giant tortoise and the oldest known animal in the world and currently living the good life in an island in the South Atlantic with a few tortoise friends (albeit younger at the spritely age of 82). Seeing a giant tortoise (and so many other species) up close in its natural setting... is up there on my bucket list experiences and that means Galapagos Islands is high on my radar!
