Regrettably, the December 3rd, 2020 meeting of the Irondequoit Historical Society is canceled. Covid numbers are on the rise, with Rochester and parts of Irondequoit, Brighton, and Gates being upgraded to Orange zones today!!! The library has not yet opened its meeting rooms, and has not announced a date. The December meeting - ‘Antiques Roadshow’ with Brighton antique dealer Mike Deming - is a hands-on event. It will be rescheduled when normalcy returns and the library room...s open up. For now, remain safe and healthy, enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas/Chanukkah/Kwanzaa, and of course, Festivus for the Rest of Us! The next meeting of the Irondequoit Historical Society will be on February 4th, 2021 via ZOOM.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Irondequoit Library has not yet opened its meeting rooms. Therefore, the September 3rd meeting of the Society is canceled.

Our May 7th meeting " Susan B Anthony" to be led by Barb Blaisdell, has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 virus restrictions. Our final meeting before the summer was to be on June 4th, our Annual Dinner. Unfortunately, we must also cancel this. We are not sure the restaurant will be open, and without a meeting prior, collecting reservations/$$$ is an almost impossible task for the people that were to handle it. Here's hoping that this will be over soon and we all stay well.

The April 2nd meeting "Significant Women of Rochester" to be led by Christine Ridarsky, City of Rochester Historian, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. Hopefully, this presentation can be rescheduled for the fall. Our future meetings are still scheduled at this time: "Susan B. Anthony" with Barb Blaisdell on May7th, and the Annual Dinner on June 4th. We will let you know if they are cancelled or delayed. Stay healthy!!!

The Irondequoit Historical Society meets at the Irondequoit Library and warmly welcomes Greg Benoit, the new Director of the Irondequoit Public Library.

The Irondequoit Historical Society does not meet in January, but there are other things to do early in 2020!

Winter Speaker Series Begins this Month Erie Canal Connections at Mount Hope Cemetery Saturday,... November 23 Noon - 1 pm Irondequoit Public Library The Erie Canal made Rochester America's first boom town. Mount Hope Cemetery is now the permanent residence of early boatyard owners, boat builders, basin proprietors, bridge builders, surveyors, tool makers and other people who comprise the Rochester connection to the legendary waterway. Learn how these interesting individuals made possible the cemetery's listing on the Erie Canal-way National Heritage Corridor. Presenter Nancy Uffindell, member of the Board of Trustees. Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery, is liaison to the National Parks Service National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. A genealogist and public historian, she has been a tour guide for over 20 years. She designed and leads the Erie Canal Connections tours at Mount Hope Cemetery. All ages are welcome to attend! FREE.
