A great Dante Link for text info and video: https://www.historyofinformation.com/detail.php?id=2769 'Between 1308 and 1321 Italian poet Dante Alighieri, a Florentine, also called the "Father of the Italian language," composed the Divine Comedy (Divina Commedia), an allegorical vision of the afterlife as a culmination of the medieval world-view. The work was originally called Commedia, but later changed to Divina Commedia by the Italian author and poet Giovanni Boccaccio. Printed editions did not add the word Divina to the title until that of that of the Venetian humanist Lodovico Dolce, published in 1555 by Gabriele Giolito de' Ferrari.'

Hope Cemetary, Barre Vermont Established in 1895, Hope Cemetery consisted then of 53 acres designed and planned by the renowned landscape architect Edward P. Adams. By that time, stone cutters from all over the world, especially Italy, were flocking to Barre, Vermont, to enjoy the booming granite industry in the city. It is estimated than one out of every three memorials found across the United States was made using granite mined in Barre. Barre is also known for h...aving an uncommonly high death rate, but that, too, is related to the industry that made it famous. Silicosis, a respiratory disease that is caused by inhaling granite dust, led to an abnormal number of deaths in the area. When the Spanish Flu 1917 - 1918 swept through the area, many knew that death could be just around the corner and got to work designing their own tombstones. This tradition has carried on ever since and about 75 percent of all of the tombstones found in Hope Cemetery were carved by the occupants of the graves they sit above. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/hope-cemetery #HopeCemetary #ItalianImmigration #Vermont #Barre #Fabintro #GrowingUpItalianAmerican #BillRusso #Stone #Marble #Gravestone #Cemetary #SpanishFlu #TheArtofImmigration #Carrara #Burial

In March 1937, when Esquire published Pietro di Donato’s first short story, Christ in Concrete, the magazine included a rare prefatory note. In the three years since Louis Paul’s prize-winning No More Trouble for Jadwick, wrote Arnold Gingrich, the editor, Esquire has received about eighteen thousand short stories from unpublished authors and has published forty of them. But not since then has a new writer come our way with the performance and promise shown by Pietro di Donato in this, his first, short story. https://www.americamagazine.org//surprising-true-story-pie
