The City of Ithaca is pleased to announce the Re-Opening Ceremony for the Brindley Street Bridge Project. Thanks to the hard work of the City Engineering and DPW Crews, along with the Federal Highway Administration & New York State Department of Transportation, Landscape Architects Trowbridge & Wolf, Project Contractor Economy Paving Co. Inc, and our Project Engineers at Delta Engineers and Architects & Land Surveyors, P.C., the Brindley Street Bridge Project has been brought... to successful completion. A socially distanced ribbon-cutting ceremony will occur on Friday, October 2, 2020, at 12:30pm, at the intersection of the new Brindley Street Bridge and West State Street. Ample temporary parking is available in the Aeroplace Factory Building parking lot and surrounding area (at West Seneca). The Brindley Street Bridge Project, which first began work in the scoping & design phases in 2014, officially broke ground in March of 2019. This project included the relocation of Brindley Street Bridge by connecting Taber Street with the West State Street/Taughannock Boulevard intersection. The former Brindley Street Bridge, which was constructed in 1938, showed signs of deterioration and was unable to safely support existing traffic volumes. This existing one-lane bridge roadway and structure remains, with significant improvements to increase its viability as a safe pedestrian facility and driveway for business North of the inlet. The new Brindley Street Bridge, connecting Taber Street with the West State Street/Taughannock Boulevard intersection, was designed to provide a two-lane access, with additional accommodations for bicyclists, pedestrians, and heavy vehicles. Cost-effective techniques were utilized to minimize maintenance costs and provide a minimum 75-year design life, along with safety and mobility consistent with improvements in the new West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard/West State Street corridor. Level 1: Limited Water Use Advisory The City of Ithaca is currently monitoring Moderate Drought conditions in our area after a prolonged period with limited rai...nfall. You can view the State Drought Monitor here: https://bit.ly/2HgGBKs Flow in Six Mile Creek, the City’s water source, has been decreasing over the past two months. Typical flows in Six Mile Creek for this time of year are 10 to 15 cubic feet per second (cfs). The current flow is approximately 5 cfs. A flow rate below 4 cfs is considered critical as the City will begin to draw more water than the creek can supply and therefore draw down the reservoir level. You can monitor the flow in Six Mile Creek here: https://bit.ly/32SEdCb With no rainfall forecast for the next 7-days, the City of Ithaca is issuing a Level 1: Limited Water Use Advisory to encourage water conservation. Until further notice, the City of Ithaca strongly encourages all residents to conserve water. Health and safety are still a priority. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, please continue washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. Here is what everyone can do to conserve water: -Limit water use to essential needs only. -Wait until you have a full load before running washing machines or dishwashers. -Do not leave water running while washing dishes, brushing your teeth or shaving. -Find and repair leaks in your home or business including running toilets and leaking faucets. A single slow drip can waste up to 10 gallons per day. More Information: The Cornell University Water System (CUWS), which draws water from Fall Creek near the Cornell Plantations, is experiencing similar conditions. CUWS issued a limited water advisory on September 17th asking customers to voluntarily conserve water.
