Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. - Pablo Picasso One of the joys of being an art collector is finding a special place in your home for every work. Adorning our living spaces with things that remind us of all the beauty and creativity in the world has taken on a special resonance this past year. As life begins to return to whatever the new normal will be, we are feeling inspired by home curations like this one. This vessel placed near the doorway feel...s like a poetic reminder to stop and and savor the little moments in between our comings and goings. A combined love of travel and art collecting inspired Bill Simmons to begin collecting African vessels in the early 1990s. His great eye led to the development of one of the finest collections of African ceramics in the world. Bill and his wife Gale regularly donate the African pots they have bought to many prestigious institutions and museums - including the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Yale University Art Gallery - so that these important and beautiful objects can be studied, preserved, and displayed for years to come, and accessible to those who may not be able to travel or collect themselves. Pictured here: Bill Simmons with guides Lugano and Moses at Makawale village, Matema, Southern Tanzania in 2013.
