Today, August 2nd, is James Baldwin’s 96th birthday, and I am proud, excited and humbled to be helping to launch a new and a new kind of farmers market - in just 6 days! We feel this initiative aligns with our mission to strive for inquiry and project based solutions at the juncture of food, environmental and social justice. And this IS a project in the making! Help us at this juncture, it is always unfolding. Help us be truly responsive. I’m so proud of our board and partners who have gone the whole mile to put this together in such short time. It may be a slow start but over time, I know it will grow like our gardens grow. Together we really can respond to a real need for fresh, local, nutritionally dense food in our community. We believe good food and good nutrition is what can keep the Bronx healthy.

There will be amazing people, conversations, workshops, and panels and scrumptious FOOD, and it's all free in the Bronx! This is also a local debut of sorts for the James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center, a non-profit organization whose mission is to strive for project-based solutions at the juncture of food, environmental and social justice. Learn more about our organization and consider getting involved. We're as grassroots as you can get - direct from the soil, soul and society of DeWitt Clinton High School!
