3 Years ago today in Jason Morris Judo Center history, July 15, 2017 the town of Glenville named a street in my honor. "Jason Morris Way" was born at the entrance of Indian Meadows Park. It was one of the biggest honors of my life. Glenville, NY - The town of Glenville where USA Judo legend, Jason Morris grew up and now resides honored him this Saturday, July 15 by naming a street, "Jason Morris Way". 2017 represents the 25th year anniversary of Morris winning an Olympic Silv...er Medal (78kg) in Barcelona, Spain. This year also represents the anniversary of Jason's father, Bernie's death who was in Barcelona to watch his sons amazing performance. Morris who turned 50 in February was also celebrated by the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) at this years NY Open awarding him their prestigious "Lifetime Achievement" Award. Morris is a 4x Olympian (1988, 1992, 1996, 2000) as well as being the Head Coach of the 2008 Olympic Team. "We are thrilled to honor our own home town hero, Jason Morris" Town of Glenville Supervisor, Chirs Koetzle, stated. After Morris retired in 2000 he decided to open the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) with wife, Teri Takemori and stay in Glenville. The JMJC has since become world renowned and remains one of USA Judo's top resources for developing Elite level players. Jason & Teri reside in Glenville with their now seven year old twins, Randi & Danica. The dedication event included a meet and greet with Jason then the unveiling of the street sign and Kiosk to be displayed in the park, followed by a Judo demonstration led by 5x USA Judo World team member, Nick Kossor with the assistance of the Morris twins. Kossor then joined local recording artist, the "Dan Wos Project" on stage for a musical performance. Kossor is currently the guitarist for the rock band, Gozer. All who came were treated to a terrific rock and roll show and got even better when they were then joined by special guest, Johnny Gioeli who is the lead singer of internationally renowned hard rock bands, Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell. Gioeli's voice and stage presence was phenomenal as he sang, "Dr Love" and "Rhythm From A Red Car" from Hardline's 1992 release, Double Eclipse then closed the show with "Rock and Roll All Night" from Kiss. The MC for the event was Rodger Wyland channel 13 and ESPN radio. The third stop on the current "Escape To LA 2" Judo tour brought us to the legendary San Gabriel Judo Club Friday night. For the second straight year our visit there was so fun and enjoyable. These seminars have allowed me to catch up with longtime friends, teammates and competitors. 2x Olympic Alternate and current owner of the Southwest Judo Club, Dave Faulkner was in attendance with some of his students. San Gabriel head man, Richie Endow was a wonderful host making us feel so welcome. On Saturday we attended the Winter Nationals were Dani Morris won the 43kg 9-10yrs. division and Randi Morris went 2-2 to take 5th in the 34kg 9-10yrs. category. On Sunday I will be visiting Taishi Judo Club for another seminar staring at 10am. After the clinic, I hope to get a rematch with John Matsuoka to avenge my tennis loss.

The second stop on the "Escape To LA 2" Judo tour was at the Hayastan MMA Academy in North Hollywood run by the one and only, Gokor Chivichyan. On the way to the seminar, I made a stop in Culver City to visit and old friend and teammate, John Matsuoka and played a little tennis. John took me to a court right near his house and gave me a thorough thumping 6-1, 6-2. I hope to have a rematch this Sunday after my clinic at Taishi Judo Club which starts at 10am. Gokor's dojo was very impressive as they have over 400 students. They offer many things including Judo, Sambo, Boxing, etc. I hope to include Hayastan on my LA tour next year as well.
