Back to the sodium chloride series on Monday, and then the potassium chloride series the following Monday, after a built-in pause of two weeks. Looking forward to seeing further progress in the isopiestic equilibrations.
Week 4 readings of the Sodium Chloride series were completed this morning. On to Week 4 readings of the Potassium Chloride series Monday.
As a judge for a Buffalo high school science fair I was asked to submit a short biography of my life as a scientist. Here is what I wrote. Brief Biography: George T. DeTitta, Ph.D. George DeTitta has been an active scientist and laboratory leader in Buffalo for more than 40 years. He credits his love of chemistry to his high school chemistry teacher Marilyn Hudson, his college biochemistry teacher Tom Doyne, and his doctoral thesis advisor Bryan Maxwell Craven. He holds a b...achelors of science degree in chemistry from Villanova University and a joint doctoral degree in biochemistry and biophysics from the University of Pittsburgh. Aiming to stay in Buffalo for one, maybe two years, he took a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Medical Foundation of Buffalo on High Street.....and stayed for a 40 year career there. He helped guide the lab in its transition from structural studies of small, biologically active molecules to the structures of proteins and nucleic acids. For ten years he served as the chief executive officer of the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (formerly MFB). He was at the helm when HWI (in conjunction with its partners SUNY at Buffalo and Roswell Park Cancer Institute) built significant research laboratories on Ellicott Street, in what is now well recognized as the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. Since 2014 he has been at Jelly Jar Labs on Summer Street at Main Street. JJL is a service technology company engaged in the study of the isopiestic properties of aqueous solutions. He is the Chief Cook & Bottle Washer at JJL. In his spare time he reads a lot of poetry, listens to jazz and classical music, tutors English language reading for Literacy NY, cooks simple meals, and drinks gallons of coffee daily. Science runs on coffee. See more
The first set of the KCl reservoir experiments is completed. That means all of the 16 unique conditions in this Zeroth Experiment (eight NaCl reservoirs plus eight KCl reservoirs) have been harvested and read once. Only seven more grand harvests to go. Hope all of this work is done by mid May. Then on to more exciting targets.
Happy to announce that the first of eight readings of the NaCl series is complete: 8 jars, 8 reservoirs, 128 samples. All in a grueling eight hour work week. Next week the first of eight readings of the KCl series. 1 week down. 15 weeks to go. BTW, when a jar is read, the reservoir and sample solutions have been extracted from the jar and each of their concentrations has been measured and recorded.
