We've enjoyed providing our Institute participants with some of Buffalo's finest food: Paula's Donuts, Marco's sandwiches and of course, pizza and wings from La Nova!

Tomorrow evening at 6pm on the main stage of Kleinhans Music Hall, Performance Institute participants along with special guests soprano Julia Bentley, cellist Veronica Nettles and violinist Christina Courtin perform in a special concert celebrating the 40 year history of June in Buffalo. Today the Performance Institute hosted a seminar featuring Ensemble Signal directors Lauren Radnofsky and Brad Lubman discussing their group, its history, mission and recent projects. Tomorrow we present Pulitzer-prize winning composer Roger Reynolds in an open rehearsal and discussion with pianist Eric Huebner on a new set of solo piano études to be performed later that evening. Two final Institute seminars take place on Thursday and Friday. Thursday at 11:30 in Baird Recit...al Hall, composer Brian Ferneyhough hosts a performance and discussion of two of his solo works for flute and cello: Cassandra's Dream, performed by flutist Wayla Chambo and Time and Motion Study II performed by cellist T.J. Borden. On Friday at 11 in B1-Baird, Performance Institute faculty member Jean Kopperud presents "On the Edge: a course to practice performing." See more

Institute participants are working with many of the young composers here as well as collaborating with two of our resident ensembles in performances of composer participant works. Today at 4pm in Baird Recital Hall, you can hear Institute participants Wayla Chambo and Adam Sherkin in works by David Nguyen and Ori Talmon for solo instrument and electronics. On Thursday at 4pm in BRH, Institute participants T.J. Borden, Mia Detwiler, Samuel Wells and Joe Desotelle perform solo works by Navarro, Charlafti, Hembree and Crane.

It was another terrific concert last night with performances featuring our Institute faculty and participants. There are two more evening Institute festival programs this week: Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:30 in Baird Recital Hall features music by Philip Glass, and JiB faculty composers Steven Stucky and Roger Reynolds and Friday at 6pm on stage at Kleinhans Music Hall features the music of JiB faculty composers Augusta Read Thomas and Bernard Rands as well as classic works by Lukas Foss and Jacob Druckman.

A fabulous opening concert last night featuring several of our Institute participants and violinist Yuki Numata Resnick in a diverse program of beautiful instrumental solos. Congrats to all! Today we have New York Philharmonic percussionist Dan Druckman, son of the late Jacob Druckman, coaching an open rehearsal of one of our participant ensembles in Jacob Druckman's sextet "Come Round." A second concert featuring Institute participants and faculty follows tonight at 7:30 in Baird Recital Hall.
