8 weeks post-OP- our Shining Light. This is the longest period Johanna has been out of the hospital in the past six months. It finally feels like we are home. Advent arrives and with it our HOPE RISES to greet The Morning Star. ... Yes, we BELIEVE.

23 years ago today- November 12th- Johanna had her first emergency brain surgery to drain the fluid off her brain. She was just 12 weeks old. Four days later, on November 16th, she had her first craniotomy to resect a large mass (cavernoma) that was compressing her brainstem. A friend took this picture in the PICU because we weren't sure Jo was going to make it through the surgery and we wanted one last family photo. Johanna defied the odds as she still does today. This is Jo's 6th year of performing there. So while she needs more support to do things she once did on our own, Jo's determination and faith still shine through. #JohannasHope. #Artworks

Johanna's had a few crazy days this week. After an episode of vomiting and headaches an MRI confirmed she has two new cavernomas which were bleeding and causing some swelling in the brain. NS adjusted the settings on Jo's programmable shunt and told us she was safe to travel upstate this weekend. The next day, Jo was considerably brighter and has remained that way today. This morning, we are in our way upstate and staying with a friend. ... Back at home, the 1st phase of construction began today! Through your donations and the assistance of skilled professionals, we are able to begin the accessibility modifications. Tomorrow, I am speaking at a healthcare conference for professionals and families battling neurological disease. Jo will be sharing her art and music and describing how she holds on to HOPE. She's very excited to be on the road again with her friend, Emma and Rae and to "tell her story." #brainshouldntbleed, that's true.
