A Good Mention is Worth Mentioning Again. Looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift? Here it is - don’t take our word for it but the brilliant endorsement of Florence Fabricant of the NYTimes. Buy on line. Link in bio. Or we’ll have a few at the Union Square Farmers Market on Saturday 4/24.
Nice Finish to the Work Week. Cooks love the Wipe Down. When everything in the kitchen goes back to it’s place - the floors are mopped and the table tops are cleaned. This has been a particularly busy week with a large batch of Cara Cara Orange Marmalade to close the citrus season and a run of Four Berry to open spring flavors. When pots sit in stillness quieting working the alchemy of the jelling process. You can’t help to smile at a job well done. Perfect Preserves. Little Luxuries. A Bite of Delight. And yes a Room with a View.
Why We Do It. I have always enjoyed the elegance & beauty of craftsmanship. At JF we want to remind why we do what we do. A quality preserve has pieces of fruit floating in an almost translucent jelly. Just like a brilliant gem stone you should enjoy the color & clarity as much as the taste & texture of the preserves. The fruit should float on your spoon & dance with a wiggle. We have a machine that fills jars - but reserve it for fruit butters and sauces. I think you’ll agree that our marmalade, jams & preserves are beautifully made delicious & incomparable. Delivering a Little Luxury to your morning & a Bite of Delight to your Day. Thank you for indulging me.
Cara Cara Orange. We off to a few days of marmalade making as the season draws to a close. The Coral Color of these navel oranges are particularly Gorgeous. We’ll be back at the Union Square Green Market on 4/24. Or buy on line. Link in bio.
Rain Rain Go Away - these Cara Cara Oranges will make for a Sunny Day. The coral color of these navel oranges is carried into the beautiful hue of the marmalade. The sweetest of oranges Cara Cara has a distinct flavor that brightens the morning or rounds out a martini. We’ll be back at the Union Square Green Market on 4/24. Or buy on line. Link in bio.
Change of Plans. We’re working in the kitchen this weekend. But plan on returning to the Union Square Green Market on 4/24. We hope to see you there. Until then our preserves are available on line. Link in bio.
Early Start to the Week. Working on a spring project for one of our favorite shops. It will take these brilliant Granny Smith Apples and a lot of elbow grease but well with the workforce a perfect preserve. Stay tuned.
Happy Easter. Celebrating by eating way to much chocolate and spending the day with family. Back at it tomorrow. Hippity Hop.
Ridiculously Really Good Red Raspberry Preserves. Made by hand not by machines - you can see the whole berries filling our jars. Just beautiful for breakfast or cocktails. A unique preserve that delivered the flavor of fresh raspberries in an exponential explosion of flavor and great taste. Find us at the Union Square Green Market Saturday 4/10. Or buy on line. Link in bio
Organic Raspberries. A little bit of summer in the kitchen. Nothing smells better as they simmer. The fragrance is just intoxicating. I can’t wait to bring this to market. For those who can’t wait. Find our Raspberry Preserves and many of our preserves and marmalades at Alimentari Flaneur in the Essex Market.

National Cocktail Day. How appropriate. A Mini Marmalade Martini. Poured in a charming hand blown martini glass made by my dear brother Robert at Urban Glass here in Brooklyn. Enjoying the rewards of a great week in the kitchen and our world. Cheers to all who labor with their hands hustling everyday keeping it going. From wives & mothers to fathers and sons, artisans and entrepreneurs, and all creative children. Keep it real. Sláinte!
And after an Afternoon of Simmering Alchemy - Voila! Our Heirloom Tomato Preserve with Ginger & Coriander is ready to pour. Delicious with cheese or on grilled Salmon. Buy on line. Link in bio.
Simple is Best. A grass fed porterhouse steak rubbed with our Rub for Steaks & Chops made with Porcini Mushrooms. We add Sean’s Salt & Pepper Rub just before cooking. And served with our Outrageous Onion Preserves. A Friday Night Favorite.
Tomato Avalanche. Last fall we cleared a field or two of their Heirloom Tomatoes. Purple Cherokee. Beauty King, Big Rainbow, Mr Stripey, Gold Medal and so many more. We sorted and stored them for the winter and got busy this week. Our Heirloom Tomato Preserve with Ginger & Coriander is the perfect paring for a Grazing Board or Grilled Cheese Sandwich. We’re back at the Union Square Market in April until then buy on line. Link in bio
It's Snowing at Josephine's Feast! - Snow Day Sale - 20% OFF - https://mailchi.mp/josephinesf/snow-day-at-josephines-feast
We are saddened by the loss of this great actor, advocate, friend and customer Miss Cecily Tyson. She often shopped the Union Square Green Market - usually alone with her pushcart. I loved her dramatic hats & scarves and that fabulous Comme des Garçons coat. Small in stature she preferred to go unnoticed. When I addressed her, those eye lit up. Her smile and conversation were some of the most magical moments on those market mornings.
Nothing Better than a Bowl of Cocoanut Curry and Thai Noodles on a Snowy New York Day. I always have a container of bone broth and a can of coconut milk in my pantry. This bowl had shrimp, local flounder, vegetable dumplings, sautéed garlic, fresh ginger and yellow peppers along with green onion, lime juice and mint. It just makes you feel warm and satisfied on a cold damp day.
Happy National Peanut Butter Day. We know the nest go to lunch is a PB&J made with our Award Winning Jams & Preserves.
Bitterly Cold Day in NYC. So we’ll look to the inspiration of of a Vermonter and his meme To have a bit of fun. We are sweeping thru our new office and warehouse space. Everything takes a bit longer than planned but we can’t wait to give you a peek next week. Our site is back up for shipping. And we’ll be back at the Union Square Green Market in February.
