The internet can be a key resource to helping loved ones communicate inside and outside of their communities. Email, can be used for friends and family to communicate including pictures and videos. Social Media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, offer an interactive approach and allow users to scroll through feeds of their friends posts or uploads. These are now great assets to seniors who live in our communities and allow them to communicate with loved ones wherever they are.

While living in an assisted living community, it is still important to track your fitness. There are many different fitness trackers now that can be worn on the wrist, such as an Apple Watch or Fit Bit. These are easy ways to help track personal health metrics like diet, amount of exercise done, and sleep cycles. It also offers recommendations on how to stay active or how many steps are needed left in your day. Wearable fitness trackers could be a great way for senior loved ones to stay active and track their health.

Technology can provide a huge benefit to elderly people during their residence at an assisted care facility, and not just a phone. Gaming consoles that kids around the house don’t use like a Wii or a Nintendo Switch could offer many games and activities that loved ones could do without having to be mobile. The Nintendo Switch is a handheld device that has access to thousands of different games, and the Wii is a physically active gaming console that multiple people could play at the same time. These could not only provide entertainment, but it could allow bonding and team activities for seniors as well. If you have one of these consoles just sitting around at home, think about giving it to your loved one or donating it to an assisted living community.

Optimism can be key to living a longer and fuller life. Research now suggests that one’s attitude about enjoying life and mobility can lead to a longer life. It is important to remind loved one’s in assisted living communities to maintain an optimistic and active lifestyle, especially during the cold months where they cannot go outside as often. Doing so, will allow loved ones to maintain a healthier lifestyle for a longer period of time. Anything from group activities, to aerobics, to taking a walk around the facility to lead to better results.

Today on National Caregivers Day, we take a moment to celebrate all of our #healthcareheroes and resident care teams. These individuals truly exemplify collaboration and compassion through their servant’s hearts. Their selfless compassion, patience, understanding, and genuine care for each resident are just a few of the many reasons that we so appreciate our Caregivers at JEA Senior Living. Thank you to each of our Caregivers for all that you do in #CaringTogether for your re...sidents each day! Make sure that you take a moment to thank the caregivers in your life today! #nationalcaregiversday #jeaseniorliving

Mental health resources are important to be aware of for those that have senior loved ones. Young people are not the only ones who struggle with mental health, and it is helpful to know which resources to reach out to if someone needs assistance or advice. Whether it be general mental health, health issues related to dementia and Alzheimer’s, or issues due to anxiety and stress, there are many resources out there that can help. Here is a link to great mental health resources for seniors - https://www.ncoa.org/center-for-healthy-/behavioral-health/

Our Commitment to Getting Residents and Staff Vaccinated At JEA Senior Living, we are committed to achieving the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates possible. We believe that the end of COVID-19 starts with us, as part of our All for One campaign. To help us drive this message home and encourage widespread vaccinations for our residents and team members, we reached out to our friend and colleague, Fara Gold McLaughlin. ... With over 30+ years of expertise in Senior Housing across roles in operations, marketing, sales, and management, Fara is a true expert and veteran in long-term-care. Fara was gracious enough to lend her credibility and experience to our vaccination campaign, and even open up about her personal experience and diagnosis with dementia. #allforone #covidvaccine #caringtogether #carenotcovid https://youtu.be/nNXa4dVLTWY
