- Snuggles - Snuggles was a rescue cat that no one would adopt because of medical complications. She’d been returned to the vet shelter multiple times by potential adopters, and ended up becoming a permanent resident at the shelter for sometime. She had lost most of her teeth to gum disease, and no longer had the ability to meow anymore. But, that didn’t break her spirit. After a while at the shelter, my girlfriend visited with a friend of hers a couple years before we had met. After hearing of Snuggles backstory and seeing how sweet she was, Stacy couldn’t leave her behind. Long story short, Snuggles now lives healthily with a loving family and has a photographer for a father

- Inquisitive - As I laid my head down to rest the other night, I noticed a small black dot on my pillow. I thought I was looking at a deer tick so I brought my eyes closer to inspect it. I soon realized I was staring into the eyes of an incredibly compact jumping spider. Years ago this discovery would have yielded different results. I was never a big spider fan. Finding one in my bed would have forced me to sleep on the couch for a few nights. However, over the past couple y...ears shooting macro, I lost most of my of spiders. I’ve found a zen like respect for them and their purpose. When I realized how close this spider let me get without moving, I decided to stay up an extra hour and break back out the MPE-65. The outcome was breathtaking, especially considering the youthful arachnids size. The last photo in the slide is an iPhone image, a size comparison against my thumbnail to add context. See more

- Red Tailed Raptor - . . . I’ve been following and observing a pair of Red Tailed Hawks for the better half of this summer now. The pair seem to have gotten used to my presence on the farm. They usually let me get somewhat close, but warn me when I’m in an uncomfortable area for them. They don’t mind letting you know when to back off, and it’s advised to heed their warning. Yesterday evening however, I was lucky enough to get within 30 ft of this magnificent creature during ...golden hour. The pair happened to be sitting on a branch at the back of Hyspot field, cackling. I approached with my camera and was surprised by their openness and receptivity to being followed. One roadside raptor took off in search of dinner, but the other stayed around keeping tabs on me. We shared eye contact through the camera body and lens for what seemed like eternity before we parted ways. This type of engagement with nature is what inspires, it’s what connects me to the animals we share this world with. Having images to document the connection... well, that’s just icing on the cake! Hope everyone had an awesome 4th of July weekend! Here’s some images from the Hyspot show last night...
