"Dominance" style training doesn't earn dogs' respect or trust.

K9 Companion Dog Training 19.04.2021

Our retired K9, Honor, is still fighting malignant melanoma. He had two surgeries in 2019 to remove the mass and get clear margins, but faces a lifetime of melanoma vaccines and oncology appointments. Honor just turned 6 years old on December 4 and is still young, and he worked tirelessly day and night to take drugs off the street and to find lost children and fleeing criminals. His medical bills have hit $10,000 and we were quite unprepared for this expense. If you have i...t in your heart to help us give this hero the medical care he certainly earned through his service and dedication, the PayPal link is below. Thank you! gf.me/u/w47v5v

Adding a new dog to your home when you already have a dog.

Not all training is the same. If you're adopting a new shelter dog or puppy, you need a lot of information, fast. But too many trainers want to sell you a "package," and each lesson might cover just one or two obedience skills. Our new puppy/dog lesson is your own "mini seminar" in what your dog is thinking, how he learns, what she needs to know to succeed - and how YOU can set yourself up for the best success possible. ONE lesson gives you the basics. It's long - usually t...wo hours or more - but is one lesson as opposed to the "package" of lessons you might be quoted elsewhere. A second lesson, if you want or need it, refines your dog's skills and your ability to communicate with them. You don't have to buy a series of lessons to have a good dog, and the best training trains YOU. Because real training doesn't happen with your trainer's hands on your dog. It happens when you learn how to do it yourself, in the little interactions that happen between your family and your new addition, day after day. If you want a good dog, it's not going to happen in a big class. It's going to happen when you and your dog know what to expect and how to listen to each other, day after day. Best to start off right, as soon as you bring your new furry family member home, not after the behaviors are established and you're all mad at each other.

All of these "New year, new me" declarations and I'm just over here like, "I hope I find more time to play with dogs!"

Can anyone relate?

Dog A Fake Hero - Pushes Children into the Seine to Rescue Them and Win Beefsteaks. Special Correspondent to the New York Times, reprinted in the NYT February... 2, 1908 Paris, - January 22, 1908 - Apropos of the decision of M. Lepine to employ dog auxiliaries for the patrol of lonely beats in the outskirts of Paris, a good story is now going the rounds concerning a splendid Newfoundland which was a candidate at one of the recent field trials. The dog is the property of a man who lives on the banks of the Seine, just outside Paris. Some time ago a child playing on the river bank fell into the water and was in imminent danger of being drowned. The dog, hearing the cries and splashing, leapt over a hedge, ran down the bank, and plunged into the stream just in time to rescue the little victim. Naturally the brave animal was made much of and the father of the child, by way of recompense, presented him a succulent beefsteak. Two days later another child fell into the water and she was rescued by the dog. The lifesaver received the same caresses and another beefsteak. Up to this point there was nothing extraordinary. But the rescues became more and more frequent. Hardly a day passed bu that some unfortunate infant was brought safely to the bank by the dog after an involuntary bath. It began to be suspected that the neighborhood was haunted by a mysterious criminal, and a special watch was inaugurated. Then the truth came out. It was the dog - the noble lifesaver himself - that was the guilty one. Whenever he saw a child playing on the edge of the stream, he promptly knocked it into the water, and then none the less promptly jumped in to the rescue. He thus established himself a profitable source of revenue.

What 'dominance' is - and isn't - in dogs, and how it affects our canine companions.

This is my retired K9, who worked tirelessly with me through all hours of the day and night. We worked the holidays and missed my children's birthdays. Cancer treatment, including multiple surgeries and bi-weekly treatment appointments are unbelievably expensive, and Honor only just turned 6 years old three days ago. If you're looking to donate for the holidays, you couldn't find a better cause. Thank you.
