When you think of foxes, you probably picture a fluffy animal with luxurious, beautiful fur. For some species and subspecies of fox, this can be an accurate ima...ge, but for foxes in temperate regions like ours, it only tends to apply during the cooler months. During warm seasons, both red and grey foxes shed so much fur that they are often mistaken for having mange. A fox that is naturally molting, or shedding its fur, will usually have a layer of fairly short fur-- the fox's newer, cooler summer outfit-- covering its entire body. In addition to this new fur, the fox will likely have clumps of long, shaggy fur-- its old winter coat-- still clinging to some areas, particularly the back and neck, which are hard for the fox to self-groom. Of course, some foxes do have mange, a horribly itchy condition caused by microscopic mites burrowing in the skin. These animals are not only immensely suffering, but they can sometimes present a health hazard to pets and humans, so it's important to report them to your local animal control, game wardens, or wildlife rehabilitators if you spot them. A fox with true mange doesn't have fur over all parts of its body. Instead, it will have entire patches where the fur is very thin or even completely absent. In severe cases, a fox with mange might even lose its fur entirely. Aside from hair loss, distinct signs of mange include redness, scabbing, "sick" behavior (such as staggering and lethargy) and constant scratching. If you do report a fox with mange, be sure to keep an eye out for any other mangy animals in the area. Some forms of mange are contagious not only between foxes, but also across species, and could infect neighborhood coyotes, raccoons, livestock, cats, and dogs. By reporting any additional sick animals you see, you can play a big role in helping prevent disease outbreaks in your area.

"What do you think the Samoan women hand tattoo is for?" Well...Theres an ancient navigation skill where Pacific navigators use their hand and the markings on their fingers to measure distances and angles of star constellations as they rise and fall in the night sky. This is brilliant navigator Kala Tanaka of the Hokulea measuring where she needs to go using her hand. You mightve seen Moana do a weird version of it. Many Samoan hand tattoo have fish around the wrists and the... stars and togitogi up the fingers. The thumb lays across the horizon while the fingers stand vertical as you align your markings with the stars. Every tattoo unique to that navigator's experience and knowledge. This would also tell you who the original navigators were. Pacific women. Its part of the Nafanua story we always overlook. She ruled all over Samoa and set up Tupa'i titles in villages on the complete opposite sides of Samoa. She didnt walk there you know... She was an accomplished navigator. And who makes ie toga, Samoan sails? Exclusively women. Blessed week Samoa. Post from: Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu #PacificHistoryTheyDontTeachAtSchoool #womensailers #sailing #écoledevoile See more

POWLESS Family information: Combining my own art with the frontispiece of A Primer for the Use of the Mohawk Children by James Peachey (1786.); I always thoug...ht this was an incredible piece showing 18th century Mohawk children, who were taught to read & write in their own Mohawk language with Mohawk primers, wearing their hair in beautiful scalplocks. The teacher in the centre is inspired by Powless ancestor Paulus Sahonwadi (d.1787) who served as Schoolmaster for the children of Canajoharie (Upper) Mohawk Castle. His father was Paulus Peters, the ancestor whose baptismal name Paulus would become the precursor for the family name Powless. Paulus Shonwadi would have 4 children with Margaret Seth (daughter of John Widemouth Seth (turtle) and Astawenserontha bear clan mother Mary Hill Kateriungh) named Paulus Paulus, Margaret Paulus, Mary Paulus and Peter Paulus. This Peter inherited the Astawenserontha name Karonhyatóntye, and is the father of Sha’tekariwate (turtle) Chief Peter Powless Sr. (b.1815). See more

Many orphans can be left a few hours to see if mom comes back...NOT OPOSSUMS! If you see a baby like this one in a yard or anywhere, get it quickly in a little box or pet carrier with a blanket and keep warm and call a wild life rescue. Momma opossum can have up to 13 babies. As they grow, they don't all fit in the pouch so they ride on her back. If something startles her and she runs, one can fall off. Momma doesn't know she lost one so please never ever leave one thinking mom will come back... Humane Society of Atchison
