Our dojo has strong connection to Oshiro-shihan, with Sensei Jon Abrams a ranked Yamanni Ryu black belt, and Shihan Gottwirt attending Yamanni Ryu seminars since 1985. Although Oshiro-shihan teaches Shorin Ryu Karate, it is easy to see a strong ‘Oshiro’ influence in our D Gakuin Shotokan. These screenshots from the interview highlight our related thoughts.

#TBT D Gakuin was founded January 7, 1986, 35 years ago today. I cannot find a photo from that exact time, but here is circa 1988 showing our older patch, and a photo 30 years later showing our current patch.

Tekki Sho, Ni, and San come from Okinawan Naihanchi. I hear it was once one long kata. Eddie wanted a workout, so we strung all three Tekkis together.
