Loving-kindness is something that we all have within us, a natural capacity for loving-kindness or friendship that is unconditional and open, gentle, and supportive. Loving-kindness is a natural opening of a compassionate heart to ourselves and to others. It’s a wish that everyone be happy - including ourselves. It can be difficult sometimes to feel the loving-kindness for yourself, though. It can help to see yourself through the lens of someone who loves you, a beloved pet..., or your childhood self. In our most recent podcast, we go through a soothing guided meditation focused on cultivating loving-kindness. Tell us: what's something you love about someone you care about? Tag them in the comments! Meditate with us: https://cohesivetherapynyc.com//008-loving-kindness-medit/ Want to know more about therapy, or are you ready to take the next step? Sometimes, opening up can be frightening. So, what does it mean to feel emotionally safe with your therapist? Emotional safety happens when you feel confident and secure in being able to talk about things you’re thinking and feeling. You feel like you can bring up the really hard stuff, the really difficult things, without having negative repercussions. However, emotional safety can happen with anyone else in your life! It is critical to success with a therapist, however, and... it can take a couple tries to find a therapist you really enjoy working with. We talk about all of this and more in our podcast! Listen in: https://cohesivetherapynyc.com//007-can-therapy-make-you-/ Want to know more about therapy, or are you ready to take the next step? Everyone experiences negative thoughts about the world around us, but do you ever feel like you're stuck in a loop? In therapy, we know that thoughts create feelings, feelings create behaviors, and behaviors reinforce thoughts. For example, say you have social anxiety. Your worries about impressing others may make you feel nervous, causing you to shake and not be able to get the words out. Your mind may then interpret this reaction as, "Ah, that was scary! I was right to be... nervous!" This can lead to a continuation or worsening of those feelings! So, how do you break the loop? Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) throws a wrench in this cycle by introducing ways to modify thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. And it's helpful for a variety of issues! Want to know more about therapy, or are you ready to take the next step? Head on over to our website at http://cohesivetherapynyc.com/. We'd love to speak with you!

"Have you been holding your breath recently without even realizing it and as a result feel anxious with shortness of breath or tightness in the chest? These are stressful times and our bodies adapt in ways that feel familiar to us. For some of us, we have been coping by holding or clenching our bodies and breath which is a pattern that can sneak in as a way of coping. Let's dismantle this pattern by engaging in some breath practices that help with activating our parasympathetic nervous system." - Danielle DiCamillo, LCSW

Self-care might be the buzzword of 2020, and for good reason: we all need to show ourselves love and compassion, especially when things get tough! But when you cannot show yourself the love and generosity you show others, your "cup" empties until there's nothing left to give - and then, you may be hard on yourself about that too. You have so, so much compassion to offer others. Offer a little bit of that to yourself, too.

Mindset is so important during these uncertain times, especially when our culture and routines have been disrupted. When you are feeling upset, it can sometimes help to have a mantra. This can be a phrase or just a few words that make you feel better and remind you to keep your chin up. We like these: Wisdom. Abundance. Serenity. If you have a mantra and are willing to share, what is it? We hope you all have a healthy, happy, and SAFE Halloween!

Your brain and gut are deeply connected. Your emotions can affect how you feel physically, and how you feel physically can affect your emotions. Unfortunately, this connection can make things complicated when you have a chronic illness such as IBS, IBD, Crohn's, and other health issues. As a result, reteaching the brain how to interpret the signals received from the gut becomes very important to emotional healing! Gut-directed hypnotherapy is just one way to refresh the connection between your mind and body and restore balance.

Therapist Danielle DiCamillo knows a thing or two about the mind-body connection. That’s because in addition to her extensive training, she’s also been a yoga teacher. In fact, she’s skilled in the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method, a trauma-focused therapy technique that integrates the yoga framework with somatic therapy, a holistic approach that helps people to discharge trauma memories from the body by paying attention to physical responses that you may be experiencing while discussing your trauma. If you’re interested in exploring your emotions through movement or the body, we’re happy to help you!

Being on the front lines of this epidemic comes with a mix of strength and vulnerability that is not easy to explain. If this happens to be you, you understand the pressures of patients counting on you to make it through illness, colleagues counting on you to keep yourself focused, and your family wanting to be there for you but perhaps not knowing how to best support you.
