Many of you know I have roots are in Keeseville. It's where I lived during my school years, and where I had my first job. Many of you may NOT realize that it is chock full of historic things beyond some of the beautiful old homes. The Ausable River splits the former village in two, with Essex County on one side and Clinton County on the other. Because of this, there are 5 beautiful historic bridges throughout the hamlet. The keystone, or "Arch" Bridge as the locals call it, ...is probably the most recognized followed by the Chasm Bridge. But there are 3 others that have just as much history, and all of them are in need of repair. The Iron Bridges, as they are called, are extremely rare and span various places: The Upper Bridge and the Pedestrian/Swinging Bridge are on North Ausable Street, and the Old State Road Bridge is in Ausable Chasm. Only the Swinging Bridge remains open today :(. However, a group of Keeseville residents formed together last summer, spearheaded by Matt Pray, to get those bridges into working order! He is working with local officials in both counties to move forward with this goal.
