Now that we sprung ahead an hour, don’t forget to change your batteries. Smoke and CO detectors save lives.

This afternoon, KFD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 22. Crews cleared the road of debris and went back in service after about a half hour.

This morning, KFD was dispatched to the Muscoot Reservoir at the intersection of Cherry Street and Route 35, on a report of either a person or an animal in the water bleeding. After about an hour of searching the water and surrounding area, it was determined that the object reported in the water was a deceased animal. In an effort to keep our waterway clean, KFD members also removed a large cushion from the water. We would like to thank Yorktown Heights Volunteer FD who stood by in their quarters with their dive team in the event they were needed.

Katonah members responded with Ladder 39 to assist Bedford Hills Fire Department last Thursday with a small fire at ShopRite.

KFD sends all of our thoughts and prayers to the Spring Valley FD in Rockland County as they continue to search for their missing firefighter. Last night, Spring Valley FD and numerous other fire departments responded to an adult assisted living facility for a structure fire. While fighting the fire, firefighters made multiple rescues of residents and staff even as conditions worsened by the second. The courage and bravery shown by the responding agencies against tough conditions is nothing short of heroic.

This afternoon, KFD participated in a live fire flashover training. We would like to thank Bedford Fire Department and Flash Fire Industries for the invitation and providing this crucial training.

The NYS burn ban began today and continues through May 14.

We heard there were Girl Scout Cookies in town so we knew we had to stop by. Troop 2632 will be selling cookies in Lot 2 today until they sell out!

KFD would like to congratulate Firefighters Devin Braun, Erich Braun, Brad Holcman, and Michael Roper on completing their Firefighter 1 training course. Over the past 4.5 months, they attended class in Valhalla at the Westchester County Training Center, where they learned all the necessary skills to become full fledged interior firefighters. Congratulations again, and to the entire graduating class!

At around 6am, KFD responded with Bedford Hills Fire Department and Bedford Fire Department to a garage fire near the intersection of the Katonah, Bedford Hills, and Bedford Village fire districts. After an extensive overhaul and investigation, crews cleared the scene after about 3.5 hours. We would like to thank Banksville Fire Department and Independent Fire Co. #13 for their assistance at this call as well as Golden's Bridge Fire Department and Somers Volunteer Fire Department for standing by at KFD while we operated.

This morning, KFD responded to a large dump truck rollover on 684. Crews cut power to the truck and controlled traffic until it could be righted. We would like to thank Bedford Hills Fire Department for their support on this call as well as Bedford Fire Department and Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Battalion 16 who handled an additional alarm in our district during this accident.

This morning, KFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with rollover in I684. Please avoid any unnecessary travel and stay safe!

During the height of the blizzard, KFD responded with Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Bedford Police Department, to a motor vehicle accident on Harris Rd at the intersection of the Route 117 Bypass. Fortunately there were only minor injuries.

We have received a lot of snow over the last few days and there is more to follow. Please remember to keep fire hydrants clear when shoveling or plowing. If we are unable to locate fire hydrants or have to shovel them before we are able to connect our hoses we lose valuable time.

We will be prepared for the upcoming storm and you should too, as always we are here if you need us.

This morning at around 1am Katonah FD was dispatched to a mulch pile fire on Beaver Dam Road. Units were on scene operating for about 2 hours. The smoke condition created from this left portions of Katonah, Bedford Hills, and 684 with little visibility. We would like to thank the Bedford Hills Fire Department, Golden's Bridge Fire Department, South Salem Fire Department, Mutual Engine & Hose Co. #1, Union Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 Bedford Fire Department, Croton Falls Fire Department, and the Somers Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance at this call.

A big congratulations to our own Jeff Kellogg on his well deserved retirement! Jeff is a staple in our community as well as KFD and we are thankful for everything he does to make Katonah a better and safer place.

This past Tuesday KFD held our monthly meeting.
