Welcome to our Monday Morning Meeting! Meet Clayton Island Tours! (continue to share to win!) Fun Fact: Of course there were other boat tour companies operati...ng from Clayton over the years. Just to name a few, Clayton Boat Lines, 1000 Islands Boat Lines, and Denny Boat Lines. Captain Dave actually worked for 1000 Islands Boat Tours for a couple of seasons during the 1970's. Thanks to our Clayton town historian, Thomas LaClair we have included photos of Clayton Boat Lines pre-1927, (photo of post card undated) and a 1944 showing scrap iron being collected for the war effort in front of Clayton Boat Lines office. Captain David Kay first opened the doors to Clayton Island Tours in 2004. The "Miss Clayton," was ordered from Florida and we began operating small, intimate boat tours and private events in the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River. Today we have a few employees who continue to share our love of the river and the 1000 Islands with guests! Debbie Scholes - Overall Manager and Group Sales, Captain Brian Parker, and Guide Andy Duclon (the voice of the 1000 Islands!) Years later, Clayton Island Tours has hosted thousands of guest on tours of the St. Lawrence River, hosted many on board weddings, transported tens of thousands of guests to various island events, provided on the water field trips to thousands of school children, on the water events for birthday's, fundraisers, anniversaries, bachelorette parties, wine and cheese cruises and so many more! Monday Morning - Meet The Chateau Country Inn (Share to Win!) Fun Historical Facts - The property first opened in the 1920's as "The St. Lawrence Chateau" and a...dvertising from the time states "A Delightful Summer Resort of Spanish Architecture in the Heart of the 1000 Islands," "Situated in the Most Beautiful Part of the 1000 Islands District," and "In Paris it's the Cafe De La Paix - In London it's Ciro's - In Vienna it's Rathaus-Keller - In New York it's the Waldorf - But in Northern New York it's the St. Lawrence Chateau" Visitors could also "Tour the Islands, upon request, leaving from our own dock for the convenience of our guests - Mahogany Cruiser or Speed Boats - manned by expert crew" Today the Chateau Country Inn is open to guests year round and is also home to Clayton Island Tours. The second floor of the Chateau features four river themed rooms with private bath, common kitchen, living room, and screened in porch (shared only with other guests.) The third floor features the "St. Lawrence Suite" with private bath, small kitchen, living room and small deck. In Season (May through October) guests enjoy a continental breakfast each morning and with a minimum of two nights stay receive a free boat tour aboard Clayton Island Tours. November through April the Chateau Country Inn is popular with off season visitors and available for guests to enjoy things like weekend getaways, small group retreats, girlfriends getaways, crafting groups (such as scrapbooking, quilting, card making, etc,) or just a winter retreat! Monday Morning - Meet Captain David Kay, Owner (Share to Win!) Dave is the third generation owner of the property at 39611 Chateau Lane, Clayton NY. Dave was r...aised here with his brothers and sister, then he and Ginny raised their two children on the property. Dave grew up on the river, has captained cruise ships in the U.S., Great Lakes, Alaska, Mexico, Costa Rica and more. Recently retired as a senior captain from Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic Ships, he is full time at the "helm" of Clayton Island Tours, The Chateau Country Inn and Kay's Kitchen.
