TOP 'O THE MORNING TO YOU LADS AND LASSES! It's Wednesday and it's also Saint Patrick's Day! I hope you're wearing your green today! Share a picture of you and your family wearing green and we'll post it on the School Story feed! But first, let's start the day with a quick laugh: What kind of spells do leprechaun witches cast?... Lucky Charms! I bet you didn't know that green wasn't the ORIGINAL color for St. Patrick's Day! You see, everyone associates St. Patrick’s Day with green colour but this festival was originally associated with blue colour. The change happened because Ireland is popularly known as ‘The Emerald Isle’. The green Irish flag and the famous shamrock are associated with the festival are green in colour. (h/t First Cry Parenting). That's wild, though. Blue for St. Patrick's Day? Mind. Blown. That said, that's all for today, but here's a list of activities and fun recipes for today that you can put in your back pocket for today or future St. Patrick's Days with the kiddos courtesy of First Cry Parenting: https://parenting.firstcry.com//saint-patricks-day-for-kid Until tomorrow! Peace, Love, and Soul!

Happy Friday! The weekend is upon us, and our first week of the semester is just about done. We did it! Yay! Lo Hicimos! We did it! - Dora the Explorer... Look out for our next newsletter on Tuesday morning, as well as the lunch menu for the kids on Monday! Let’s end the week with a little bit of Women’s HERstory for Women’s History Month: Mabel Fairbanks (November 14, 1915 September 29, 2001) was an American figure skater and coach. Born in Florida and orphaned by age 8, she stayed with a teacher for a while, however she describes being treated like a "maid" and eventually went to NYC to live with her brother. She began skating in Central Park Ice Rink around 1925. She fought discrimination throughout her skating career and in the 1930's she was not allowed to compete in the national qualifying event for the olympics or any competition. She performed in shows in NYC until the 1940's. She went on to tour internationally skating with the Ice Capades in Mexico and later with the Ice Follies. After returning to the US, she saw a sign "Colored Trade Not Solicited" at the Pasadena Winter Gardens. Newspaper articles were written about it everywhere and she was eventually let in. As a Black American and Native American woman she paved the way for other minorities to compete in the sport of figure skating such as Naomi Lang. In 1997 she was inducted into the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame, as the first person of African American and Native American descent. She was inducted in the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame in October 2001. And that’s all for this week! To quote one of my favorite sports analysts and personalities, Bomani Jones: See you el Lunes (Monday) Peace, Love and Soul!
