MONTICELLO KIWANIS AND SHOP RITE DONATE FOOD FOR THANKSGIVING Following in the continuous tradition of community service, the Monticello Kiwanis Club presented Julian Dawson, Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Sullivan County, with a check for $250.00 to purchase Thanksgiving food trimmings to accompany eight turkeys donated by Monticello Shop Rite. MONTICELLO KIWANIS VIRTUALLY INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS The Kiwanis Club of Monticello held their 74th Annual Installation of Officers on September 21st. This was the first time it was held virtually due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Newly elected Hudson River West Division Lieutenant Governor Hazel Goldstein installed the following club officers for 2020-2021: Marvin Rappaport, President, Karen Ellsweig, Vice President, Linda Barriger, Treasurer and Kathy Garlick, S...ecretary. New Directors installed are Jeff Siegel and Ellen Nesin. Mr. Rappaport said he is honored to be elected to a second term and he knows that his late father, Leo Rappaport, would be very proud of him, being that he also was President of the Kiwanis Club of Monticello many years ago. He thanked the re-elected officers for their continual devotion and support and he is looking forward to working with newly elected Vice Pres. Karen Ellsweig. He is grateful for the support and assistance he always received from Outgoing Vice President Robert Green and Immediate Past President Lori Benjamin. Despite the adversities that the Club faced this year, Mr. Rappaport stated that the purpose and mission of the club remained the same to help and give back to the community that we all care about. The Kiwanis Club of Monticello in normal times meets the first and third Mondays of the month at 6:30 PM at Tilly’s Diner. At this time, all meetings are virtual via zoom. Local Kiwanis Clubs Reach Out to Nursing Home Residents The Kiwanis Clubs of Monticello and Woodridge joined forces recently and visited the Care Center at Sunset Lake in Liberty, New York where they were greeted by Care Center Administrator Sherrita Alexander and Commissioner of Div. of Health & Family Services Stephanie M. Brown. They presented them with little gifts and greeting cards to be distributed to each nursing home and rehab resident to reassure them that they ar...e not alone and that people are thinking of them - especially at this time when they are unable to enjoy normal socialization activities or have their loved ones visiting them. The Aktion Club of Sullivan County, comprised of individuals from SullivanOrangeArc, New Hope Community and Center for Discovery, contributed a large amount of beautifully hand made greeting cards for this project. Cards were also presented to representatives from Sullivan County Public Health Nursing Department to be distributed to homebound patients. The very important healthcare workers at the Care Center at Sunset Lake and Public Health Nursing were also acknowledged and thanked for their heroic service by presenting them with buckets of munchkins from Dunkin Donuts for their enjoyment. Commissioner Brown thanked the Kiwanis Clubs and stated they are tremendously grateful for such an incredibly thoughtful and inspiring project. The Kiwanis Clubs are planning to distribute greeting cards to the homebound recipients of the Meals on Wheels Program when it is reinstated by the Sullivan County Office for the Aging early in July.
