An icon, dynamic, and totally inspiring! A well-deserved congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on becoming WTO's first woman and first African to lead the organization. A reminder that in life, each step is the beginning of something.

"If we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective." ~ Martin Luther King Jr

I Voted For Freedom!! My mind has been moving a thousand miles a minute. My anxiety is beyond comprehensible. In all my years living in America, I have never felt the level of anxiety and fear I feel today. In the days leading up to this election, there has been a noticeable difference in the atmosphere. As I walked down 5th Avenue, the lights had been replaced with darkness; the energy with a sense of hopelessness.... From one block to the other, every major retailer is boarded up out of precaution for violence in the aftermath of the election. I was suddenly reminded that the very things that I ran from in Nigeria have confronted me here. I bought into the American Dream. I wanted to experience what it means to exist in the "land of the free." As a woman and an African immigrant, "freedom means being able to accomplish and do things my grandparents and parents were not able to do or accomplish during their own times. Freedom means being able to have a voice and being certain that their votes mattered. These were some of the things that eluded my parents. As a Nigerian American, these privileges are something I have never taken for granted. Today, I voted for freedom. I voted because I believe in this land - the land of opportunity; a land not perfect but land always willing to learn from her past. I voted as an immigrant because America afforded me a dream I could not realize in my native land. I voted in the fullness of my womanhood because this land allowed me to walk through doors that women in my country were not allowed to enter. I am blessed to be an American. Many of my brothers and sisters living in Africa and across the Diaspora are waiting on a new reality that eludes them. My vote is not just for me. I voted for my brothers and sister who cannot peacefully protest to manifest the reality that is their right without being murdered under the cloak of night. I voted because my future progress is measured by my skill and talent and not because my father is a highly connected politician. I voted on behalf of my brothers and sisters in Nigeria, who in their quest for freedom, continue to be bound by tribalism, social marginalization, and systemic oppression. It is up to us! It starts with us!! We are the ties that bind this world in solidarity and unity! Nkechi Ogbodo, President/Founder Kechie's Project Inc

Dear Friends, My heart is breaking. There is so much going on in our lives right now. Globally, the world has been challenged by COVID-19 pandemic. Here in the U.S., we are facing an uncertain future while the presidential election looms overhead. Right now, youth in Nigeria are under attack by their own government. Per military orders, unarmed youth were killed mercilessly while peacefully protesting for basic human rights. These young people are not thugs; they are brillian...tly educated, hardworking youth who have managed to make a decent living despite years of mass government corruption and exploitation. The current Nigerian administration has failed this generation! The time for change is now! Stand in solidarity with me and the Nigerian youth by posting #endsarsnow! #endswatnow Our voices matter! Nkechi Ogbodo. President/Founder Kechie's Project Inc
