Yes!!! I remember thoughts like this DAILY while I do my best to parent my fire-tongued and wild-hearted son. I KNOW God has big plans for him and these difficult behaviors are just signs that he has a fierce and intense leader within his little 7yr old brain! It overwhelms him now but someday it will serve him. For now, we hold on for the ride!
So true. Don’t be such a strong authority as a parent that your kiddos don’t feel any hope coming to you with something that may be bothering them. I watch this play out over and over. With children and parents, and adults trying to undo the damage it created in their own adulthood. #listen #validate #respectyoungminds
Zoey came to the office for the first time today! She did amazing!!! Much better than her brother Maxwell. She’s hired!
Testing out what is essentially a biofeedback device. It’s called Mightier. Harvard researched so figured worth a try! Jack has on an armband reading his heart rate. He plays simple games and when he starts to get aggravated hot lava invades his screen. He has a little heart rate scale he can see that reminds him to take breaths. He then watches the hot lava go away and he can see his screen again. Super cool, even though he’s currently quite ticked because it’s new to him . That’s my hot head! Will update you in a month to see if I’ve noticed any progress in his ability to calm himself day to day!
YES!!! And this especially goes for kiddos too

Think of your kiddos that are struggling right now. SO many new young clients. Poor kids are a mess. Affected by all that’s strange with school, schools not meeting their needs, and many crying out (literally) for NORMAL activities to resume. Tune into your kids...and creatively think of ways to try and help And if that doesn’t work try again!
Dr. John Gottman performed a detailed laboratory examination of children whose parents interacted with their emotions in various styles. The research identified... four types of parents that reflected parenting stereotypes we often learn ourselves, or from our peers, as children. You may have known a dismissing, disapproving, or laissez-faire parent in your life. Or maybe you can identify yourself with one of these parenting types distinguished by Dr. John Gottman's research and would like to form a closer connection to your child. There is encouraging news: It's never too late to become an Emotion Coaching parent. Put the steps of Emotion Coaching to work when you take our online course.
