Election Day is here and the months leading up to it have brought no shortage of political drama. Many of our club members may have already taken advantage of early voting, others are traditionalists, choosing to get out their vote on this day. What is of utmost importance is to support those candidates who support our 2nd Amendment rights, support those who maintain the best interests of the United States andcommunities such as ours, here in Putnam County! Grab those masks andGET OUT AND VOTE!

New York deer are currently being affected by an unusual outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD). EHD is a fatal viral disease of whitetail deer caused ...by a tiny biting fly. It cannot be contracted by humans. A deer infected with EHD may appear lame or dehydrated and have a swollen head, neck, tongue, or eyelids. Frequently, infected deer will seek out water sources and many die near a water source. To date, EHD has been confirmed in portions of Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, and Westchester counties, and DEC has received reports of approximately 750 dead deer. Though the current outbreak appears concentrated in the lower Hudson Valley, EHD may spread to other parts of the state, until we have widespread frosts that kill the flies that transmit the virus. Reports from hunters can help DEC track the disease's potential spread. Hunters are encouraged to report any deer suspected of dying from EHD to their nearest DEC regional wildlife office: https://on.ny.gov/2K6BOtt For more information: https://on.ny.gov/36rdkHB

DEC recently released a proposal to potentially expand deer hunting opportunities in New York's Southern Zone, which would create additional bowhunting and muzz...leloader hunting opportunities from Dec. 26, through Jan. 1. The proposed extension would provide an additional seven days of late-season hunting with bows and muzzleloaders. DEC welcomes and encourages public comment on the proposed regulations. For full proposal details, as well as instructions on how to submit your comments, please see on.ny.gov/3invmxD.

Hosted by Our Lady of the Lakes - Council # 6318 - Knights of Columbus - Carmel, NY!! A great event! Join us on Saturday, October 3rd for authentic German food, German beer, and live German music from the famous Austrian Boys Band! This year we have to do things a little differently. First, this is a fundraiser for St. James the Apostle Parish and School, which was forced to cancel its annual summer Feast of St. James due to COVID-19 restrictions. That was a major hit to our... parish's finances, and we're going to donate proceeds from Oktoberfest to help them out. Next, to comply with the restrictions and also give more opportunities for our guests to help us raise funds, we're serving dinner in four 2-hour seatings to a maximum of 50 guests in our dining room. The seatings are from Noon to 2 p.m., 2 to 4 p.m., 4 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. You must purchase tickets in advance for a seating. There are no walk-ins or sales at the door. FOLLOW THIS LINK TO PURCHASE TICKETS ONLINE: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oktoberfest-for-st-james-paris For your $25 donation you will receive admission, appetizers, dinner, live music, and one draft German beer. NYS Hunting and Trapping Licenses for the 2020-2021 Season go on sale August 10 With liberal bag limits and some of the longest seasons around, New Yorkers can enjoy hunting continuously from September 1 (squirrel) into April (snow geese). You can purchase licenses and permits at any one of DEC's license-issuing agents or by telephone at 866-933-2257. The new hunting and trapping licenses are valid from Sept. 1, 2020 through Aug. 31, 2021, while annual fishing licenses are va...lid for 365 days from date of purchase. New York's habitat serves a vital role in maintaining healthy and sustainable fish and wildlife resources. Purchasing a hunting or trapping license helps support DEC's important conservation projects and ensures the future of natural resources for generations to come. DEC also encourages outdoor enthusiasts to consider purchasing a Habitat & Access Stamp each year. Funds from the $5 Habitat & Access Stamp support projects to conserve habitat and improve public access for fish-and-wildlife-related activities. This year's Habitat & Access Stamp features a northern leopard frog. Last year's Habitat & Access Stamp featuring a bull moose was the most popular stamp in DEC history, with more than 25,000 sold. Visit DEC's website for more information.

FYI to Residents. Today I received this email from Highway Superintendent Richard Othmer: Please notify everyone affected that starting tomorrow, Monday July 6t...h that there will be major delays on the Hortontown Road small bridge span, it will be closed to all except local traffic for extended periods. We are installing two concrete head-walls & a 4' diameter pipe to replace the under designed 2' existing pipe without head-walls. This is of an emergency basis due to constant flooding & eroding of the road. We have already trapped 6 beavers out of this location this year alone. They are very productive & relentless, I wish I was able to hire a couple for Kent Highway with little orange vests. Originally built pre-WWII as are at least 8 other spans in Kent. Only access is from Farmer's Mills to the bridge & from the other side Taconic to the bridge.

We're doing another food drive, this time at our Council (10 Fair Street in Carmel) on Saturday, May 2nd. Please drop off your donation of non-perishable items ...from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details on what we need and contact info are on the attached flyer. Please share. On Saturday, April 20th, Knights from Carmel and Mahopac ran a very successful food drive that stocked the food pantry at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac. This past Friday, we were told that a line of over 100 cars visited the church to draw from their food bank. Unfortunately, with the great number of unemployed and fiscally challenged people during this pandemic, food insecurity is at unparalleled levels. We therefore need to conduct another food drive this week. This will be a non-contact event. You just drive through to the designated spot and drop off your donation. We'll take it from there! After this next drive, in conjunction with St. James parish, and with input from Putnam C.A.P. and other organizations, we will be distributing from a food bank at our Council, to serve residents of Carmel, Kent, and elsewhere in Putnam County. We will announce distribution date(s) in the near future. We have no doubt our wonderful Putnam community will step-up and make this drive another tremendous success! #PutnamStrong

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NYSEG Restorations Continue During Overnight Period Most customers to be restored Tuesday with limited areas likely on Wednesday ... BINGHAMTON, NY April 14, 2020, 6:30 a.m. EST NYSEG, an AVANGRID company, announced that restorations continued throughout the overnight period after high winds and rain disrupted service to thousands of customers in the company’s Brewster division (Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties). Currently more than 14,000 customers in the division are without power 9,200 customers in Putnam County, 4,500 in Westchester County and 400 in Dutchess County. While crews are still assessing damage in the hardest hit areas, the company announced that it expects most customers impacted by Monday’s event to be restored on Tuesday, with limited areas likely to be restored on Wednesday. Crews will continue to work until every customer is restored. The company is working with local municipal officials to distribute dry ice and bottled water to customers impacted by the outages. Those locations and details will be announced throughout the day on Tuesday. Early damage reports indicate more than 300 downed wires, in addition to broken poles and fallen trees and limbs. Currently, more than 320 company and contractor line and tree resources are actively working in the Brewster divisions restoration effort. Resources are also being redeployed from other areas to the Brewster division to assist those engaged. In addition, the company has made some line and tree crews available to local municipalities as part of the road clearing process. Given the ongoing COVID-19 challenge, the company reaffirmed that crews are continuing to follow CDC recommendations, including social distancing and hygiene related best practices. Recognizing the NY PAUSE has many residents sheltered at home, for everyone’s safety we ask customers to observe a six-foot social distance if they must be near our workers and always remain outside the work zone. Allowing our crews to remain uninterrupted and focused on our work enables us to determine damage and make repairs more quickly. The company is also coordinating response efforts with state and local emergency management officials. The company will provide updates throughout the event to the general public on its website and social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) and also remind customers of the following safety tips to prepare for the storm and stay safe if power outages do occur. Before a storm strikes: You can use our new mobile app to report and check the status of outages. To download the application, customers should search AVANGRID in the Apple or Android app stores and select NYSEG. The application is free to download. Sign up for Outage Alerts to receive updates automatically by phone, text, or e-mail as the company updates the status of the restoration process in their area. Customers can sign up for outage alerts by visiting here for NYSEG. Keep battery-operated flashlights and radios on hand, along with supplies of drinking water and non-perishable foods. Make sure that smart phones, tablets and other mobile devices are fully charged. Fill your car’s fuel tank. Stay Away From Downed Wires: Stay at least 30 feet from a downed power line. If a downed wire comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside and wait for help. If you must get out because of fire or other danger, jump clear of the vehicle to avoid any contact with the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Land with your feet together and hop with feet together or shuffle away; don’t run or stride. NYSEG customers should call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations. During a Power Interruption Contact neighbors to see if their power is off. A loss of power may be the result of a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker. To report a power interruption, contact NYSEG at 1.800.572.1131. Keep refrigerators and freezers closed as much as possible. Most food will last 24 hours if you minimize the opening of refrigerator and freezer doors. Power Restoration Priorities: The companies’ first priorities are to respond to reports of downed power lines to keep the public safe. NYSEG customers are asked to call 1.800.572.1131 to report downed wires. Once this vital public safety work is complete, the company will: Assess the damage to the electricity delivery system. Develop a detailed restoration plan. Make repairs as quickly as possible. For additional information, including storm preparation tips, storm safety information, generator safety information, restoration priorities and emergency resources, visit Outage Central at NYSEG.com or RGE.com and on the company’s social media pages: Facebook: @NYSEandG Twitter: @NYSEandG # # #

We have this in from the county executive this morning. With the long-awaited town-by-town breakdown: With the number of local cases of COVID-19 increasing dail...y, it is essential that county residents continue to stay at home, stay safe and practice social distancing, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said. We need to do our best to slow the spread of the outbreak, to flatten the curve, and protect our healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed, Odell said. I really want to commend all of our residents for taking these orders as seriously as they have. The public response countywide has been fantastic. As of Friday morning, March 27, Putnam County had 106 positive COVID-19 cases. Every town in the county has positive cases. This is the breakdown of positive cases by town: Carmel 56 Kent 13 Patterson 6 Phillipstown 6 Putnam Valley 8 Southeast 17 We are working hard at trying to get a state-run testing site in Putnam County, so that we can have the most accurate and complete information on the outbreak as quickly as possible.
