Denying a tenant an apartment because they pay rent with a Section 8, LINC, or other housing voucher is discrimination and is illegal in NYC. Landlords who viol...ate the law will face consequences: - The Commission found one property management company guilty of discrimination based on lawful source of income for refusing to show a prospective tenant an apartment after he revealed he had a Section 8 voucher. The Commission ordered that company to pay $100,000, its highest civil penalty in its history in a source of income discrimination case. Learn more about source of income discrimination protections and how to get help from the Commission should you experience discrimination at http://www1.nyc.gov/site/cchr/media/source-of-income.page Report discrimination at 718-722-3131.
