La Due Guitars 17.05.2021

The second weirdest guitar ever built in the laboratory of Dr. Frankenluthier; An eight string "octo-bass". Number 130, this guitar is a look at a bass guitar ...played with octave strings like a 12-string. It even required custom made strings. This guitar is my J55B-8 model, made with a Butternut back and rims, Douglas Fir top, Walnut trim. A second attempt would surely yield a better instrument but this turned out very well. Please keep in mind that I'm really not a bass player when you watch the video. See more

Guitar #131 came to life at 4:00 pm today. This is a J53 (jumbo) guitar in Curly White Ash with Padauk trim, Sitka Spruce top and Pau Fero fingerboard. The Ash for this guitar came from a log I acquired just a mile down the road from where I live.

A Weird One In The Works. I'm thinking acoustic bass, but with four double course strings, tuned in octaves. I've seen electric basses in this configuration, ...but never an acoustic. Gotta Try it. This one is a jumbo body, 18 inch lower bout with a Douglas Fir top and a Butternut back and rims, specific materials chosen for specific reasons. I'm looking for a fat, mellow sound. This one makes a fifth instrument in the in-process group. Stay tuned! See more

What Sort of Guitars Can You Make Out of This Stuff? In about two years, we'll find out. What is yellow wood? 1 : any of various trees having yellowish wood or ...yielding a yellow extract especially : a leguminous tree (Cladrastis lutea) of the southern U.S. having showy white fragrant flowers and yielding a yellow dye. 2 : the wood of a yellowwood tree. What is yellow wood used for? Native Americans used the wood for building and carvings. Early settlers prized the wood for gunstocks. The root bark of yellowwood was a primary dye ingredient for early settlers in the southern Appalachians. The bright yellow wood is used by woodworkers for small specialty items.
