Our next book highlight from Kevin's Korner is a tribute to another wonderful Kevin! Kevin the unicorn from the book It's Not All Rainbows. Kevin is a unicorn who is supposed to be wonderful and perfect all the time but he wakes up to a day that is anything but perfect. Everything seems to go wrong and he's not in the best of moods which is no good for a unicorn. Weekday Kevin leans is that it's okay to not be okay. We all have hard days and we all have bad moods but that doe...sn't make us any less amazing or wonderful. Aside from my predisposed love of this book due to its Kevin character this is a fantastic picture book with a lovely message for any and all kids. The best part is a sequel just came out! So one of the first recommendations that I'm going to highlight from my new Kevin's Korner endcap is a personal favorite because it has an amazingly hilarious character named Captain Kevin! It's called Shipwreckers! The Curse of the Cursed Temple of Curses or We Nearly Died. A Lot. This wonderful middle grade book has it all. It's got adventure, a brother and sister friendship, curses, pirates, temples and best of all it's very, very funny. ... Each chapter of this book is like tuning in to a Saturday morning cartoon. Each time you open it up you're excited to see what's going to go wrong now and how they manage to barely escape. If you've got a young reader who loves a good, fun book that's not too heavy on the emotional stuff but heavy on fun then this is a great book for them.

We have a plethora of holiday books out and about so I went for some more feel good books which I'll highlight as the holidays move forward but I did want to highlight a little something for the parents. "Things My Soon Needs To Know About The World" by Frederick Backman is a fantastic, hilarious and sometimes tear jerking book about parenting that I can't recommend enough. Every parent will be happy and apprec...iative to read and it makes the perfect gift for the holidays. A popular middle grade book series we have in the kids dept. is Ridley Pearson's Kingdom Keepers which is about a group of kids who protect the Disney theme parks by ensuring the villains don't escape. I was asked to contribute to a calendar based on the series years before I became the kids dept. lead so I was unfamiliar with it. Being a Halloween nut my first thought was kids? Disney parks? I'm drawing something from the Haunted Mansion! Well, I kinda missed the mark for wh...at they were looking for but they loved the art so they asked me to give it another go. This time they asked for Maleficent but I had to give her a bit of a design change because apparently despite being published through Disney they couldn't use the specific animated designs.
