Ki Aikido New York 09.05.2021

What is Ki? Ki means Life Force, the natural energy common to all living plants and animals. The concept of a universal essence that pervades nature is not generally part of our culture in the West, but in Japan the far-reaching and down-to-earth spirit of ki is reflected in many words and expressions such as: Yuki; courage, literally active ki Ki ga shizumu: depression, ki sinks down Ki o tobasu: frightened, ki flies away... Ki ga kiku: cleverness, ki works sharply In Aikido, we learn that force and aggression are useless in dealing with a partner holding you. Technique and skill are necessary, but most importantly we must learn to extend our ki effectively and respect the ki of our partner. The development of ki in the study of Aikido is why physical strength is of no consequence. So come along and take a free introductory class, and you will experience some fun exercises that demonstrate the principles of ki. See more

In today’s world many people have a highly pressurized lifestyle which can cause tension, fear and worry. When the mind is disturbed, or we have physical tension, we withdraw our power and become less effective. In Ki Aikido we practice exercises that help us to obtain a calm mind and relaxed body, enabling our power to be fully extended. These exercises are extremely good for your health, because they help you to reduce the fear and stress in your life by enabling new levels of relaxation and confidence.
