This industry magazine from 2000 reveals a few things of note. Fitness as an industry has exploded! There are no people of color in this whole magazine. Some exercise trends have never gone away, they just have updated equipment. And the short bra top with high waist bottoms has made a major comeback! Please watch my amateur video, pair it with your favorite cocktail, and then you might agree with my self-proclaimed idea of "fun".

Considering the range of demands that we engage in throughout a longer-than-circadian rhythm day, the very thought of lying down often flashes as a moment of fantasy, an escape from reality. And what about the many therapeutic practices that often involve a bit of time on the floor, a blanket, a mat, and let's not forget the iconic Corbusier/therapist situation? What is this about? Are all of these situations calling us to have visions of Coco Lopez fruity drinks surrounded b...y the sound of gently crashing waves? Well, maybe. If we aim to understand the effects that lying down has on the body, we can see that being horizontal has the potential to alter our senses. It changes our thoughts and actions by having a different feedback loop. It "takes the load off" and relieves our powerful muscles that get us from point A to point B. A new set of options occur with this complete surrender to gravity. Our sensors, our eyes and ears aren't occupied with balancing and adjusting to obstacles. So for a moment, our attention is drawn elsewhere. So much more can be said about lying down. Bernd Brunner offers us a lovely reflection and an audio version, which always gets my attention. https://aeon.co/ideas/heres-to-the-lost-art-of-lying-down See more

Observation is one of the key skills when working with clients. It has taken me years of practice to have a degree of confidence in making decisions about what I am seeing and to come up with different markers to help guide my eye. I have always found it helpful to learn how an artist approaches the drawing of the human body. I am in great awe of their technical proficiency. It is also helpful to see where they are drawing lines to create the curves and how geometrical boxes become contours. Sometimes watching oblique angles move can help guide my brain to to the joints in action. Sometimes it is the the area where there is no perceptual motion that catches my eye. Here is nice example of an artist talking about their technique.

All efforts matter when it comes to getting aid during this crisis. Again, share widely and in goodwill. Thank you.
