What makes me passionate about OT? For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be an OT. In junior high I volunteered in the occupational therapy department at a local hospital. From then on I knew I had met my lifelong passion. I didn’t initially start off working with kids. I started off in a hospital in rehabilitation and acute care working with adults. I would quickly try to snatch all of the orders for kid’s that would come our way. Most of these kids were not ...healthy and in the PICU and NICU. I realized I loved working with kids and moved on from the hospital setting to a school district. While I loved being in a school I realized it didn’t give me a chance to practice what I loved the most which is a true SI framework. I decided to specialize in SI and have spent years making sure I got to the top of my profession. Having my own child who is not neurotypical has made me even more attune to understanding what our families go through. All the families that come to my practice know that I live for being an OT! It is truly a passion that can change a child’s life. I am so lucky to have an amazing group of OT’s here at my practice that also share my passion! It’s not often you come across people like this. Introducing Carly! Carly received her Masters of Science and Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy from Ithaca College. Following graduation, Carly moved to New York City and has been practicing OT in schools, sensory gyms and through teletherapy, working with children as young as 2 through the age of 21. Carly has experience treating children with various developmental disabilities and delays, including sensory processing, pervasive developmental disorders, executive ...functioning problems, learning disabilities, and other neurological and physical impairments. Carly is certified in Learning Without Tears. She also has advanced training in Holistic Approach Neuro-Development Learning and Efficiency, Primitive Reflexes, Yoga to Improve Sensory, Self-Regulation and Motor Skills in Kids. Carly is also trained in Therapeutic Listening. Carly’s passion for occupational therapy is evident when she is able to observe improvements in a child’s behavior or their physical or emotional well-being. She firmly believes that work and play are so seamlessly intertwined and works hard to enhance every child's outcome by targeting their individual likes and needs during each session to keep them motivated and engaged. Great work on the Moro this week! Facilitating this pattern of flexion helped this semi-new walker use less extension while walking right after this! This enabled her to move into flexion when she loses her balance instead of falling back into extension- which is normally her go to!
