Flag Day is a nationwide observance today, but Pennsylvania is the only state that recognizes it as a legal holiday. Bernard J. Cigrand, a school teacher in Waubeka, Wisconsin, reportedly spent years trying to get Congress to declare June 14 as a national holiday. Although his attempts failed, the day was w...idely observed. Father of Flag Day honors have been given to William T. Kerr, who was credited with founding the American Flag Day Association in 1888 while still a schoolboy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Both President Wilson, in 1916, and President Coolidge, in 1927, issued proclamations asking for June 14 to be observed as the National Flag Day. But it wasn’t until August 3, 1949, that Congress approved the national observance, and President Harry Truman signed it into law. World War II Meta Body Accession number: MO68-46 Description: United States flag from PT 109 motor torpedo boat, which flew on the vessel during Lieutenant John F. Kennedy's command in April-August of 1943. This flag was removed from PT 109 by Charles Harris, a crew member, in Tulagi Harbor when the boat was being overhauled in July, 1943. Our hearts our heavy as we begin to lay to rest the Matriarch of our King family, Linda M. King. Linda supported our family in many ways, and being an integral part of King’s Rubbish Removal and King’s Roll-Off Services is another space that is now void of her presence. There is no other like her; she is irreplaceable. For her customers; she was especially giving of her time, spreading kindness and lending her ear to those enduring unfortunate circumstances. Many anxious ...caller’s minds were put to rest when calling for services due to a fire in your home, heavy rains flooding your basements - that threatened precious memories, and deep sadness from a loved ones passing. That was her just her way. Linda was sure to treat many of you like family, while maintaining a superior level of customer service. So today we will honor her with her own words....
