October is American Pharmacists Month, and all of our pharmacists and pharmacy teams ROCK! Because this year was unpredictably challenging, a few local children wanted to show appreciation and provide a little laughter for our teams by sharing their hand-painted "pharmacist rocks!" We took their cue at Kinney and whipped up some certificates to tell our teams that we also think they ROCK! Our teams responded by coming up with creative names, adding artistic flare, and creati...ng clever stories for their new pet rocks! Check out some of our teams below! Throughout the month of September 2020, as part of our celebrations of American Pharmacist Month and National Employee Ownership Month, we invited Kinney Drugs patients and customers to vote for their Favorite Employee and Favorite Pharmacist. This year's votes were tallied October 1, and the surprise award presentations took place Tuesday, October 13th! Please congratulate Steve Simpson, R.Ph., Supervising Pharmacist of Store #11 in Barre, VT, and Rachel Simmons, Customer E...xperience Supervisor in Store #28 in Dolgeville, NY, on being named Favorite Pharmacist and Favorite Employee of 2020. In Steve’s honor, $1,000 will be donated to the Northeast Slopes Ski Area. In Rachel’s honor, $500 will be donated to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital at St. Luke’s and $500 to the Herkimer County Humane Society. 2020 Favorite Pharmacist: Steve Simpson, R.Ph. Supervising Pharmacist, Store #11, Barre, VT Steve began his career with Kinney Drugs by interning at the Barre store while attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. After graduating in 2000, he continued to work for Kinney Drugs, floating for a bit until a full-time position opened in Barre. He is now a 23-year veteran with the company and has served in his current position as Supervising Pharmacist since 2004. When asked what it meant to be named Favorite Pharmacist of 2020, Steve replied, I am very humbled to be in the company of so many local legends who have previously won the award. It is an impressive list of truly great pharmacists. It was also such an honor to be recognized by the patients I serve to know that the help and service I provide makes a difference and that they took the time to go online and vote for me. I am both grateful and inspired. 2020 Favorite Employee: Rachel Simmons Customer Experience Supervisor, Store #28, Dolgeville, NY Rachel has been an employee of Kinney Drugs for 11 years. She began her career in 2009 as a Customer Experience Advocate and was promoted to Customer Experience Supervisor in 2012. Her favorite aspect of working for Kinney Drugs is her daily interactions with her customers. Rachel said that she was pretty speechless when she realized she had won this award and her first thought was No WAY! When asked what winning the award means to her, she replied, That I should continue my hard work and focus on making my customers happy! She added (directly to her customers): I love you! Thank you for voting for me! I will continue to make you proud!
