Notice to Kirkland Residents; There has been Covid exposure within our highway department. So far one person testing positive as of this morning 11/19. It is mandatory now that the entire crew quarantine for 14 days. As essential workers we are able to still perform our essential work, so the roads will still be plowed and sanded as they normally would be. However green waste and leaf collection will have to wait until we are cleared by the Department of Health. We will be back at it just as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Jon Scott
Time to pay it foreword!
In case you’re looking for an excuse to stay home today...
The Highway Department staff is standing by ready to provide essential services should the need arise. It looks like it will snow tomorrow and we will be on the road as usual, but following Covid 19 safety guidelines. If you have a situation and need our services please call the Highway Garage, the phone rolls to my cell. You can also use the Ready311 app which notifies me immediately. Stay safe! Jon
Every year it becomes more of a challenge to provide all of the services our community has grown to expect. During my tenure with the Kirkland highway department, green waste collection has gone from an occasional trip around the town several times a summer, to a daily operation all summer long. Some days requiring the entire crew, a fleet of equipment and our police department for additional traffic control. Green waste collection (which many towns do not provide) is a stra...in on our resources. Our staffing level is reduced from years ago and the equipment we use whose primary function is highway maintenance, is aging and remarkably expensive to own & maintain. We do not have a line item in our budget for green waste service. We try to absorb the costs within our annual budget. In order to keep this service viable, we need your help. Please limit the volume of green waste and follow the guidelines in this notice. If you have questions please reach us at 315 853-2134 or use the Ready311 app. There is an option for green waste questions. Thank you! Please share See more
The sun is out. Roads are clear. Today is a good day to even the score with the Town of Marshall. During the summer they let us use their large dirt roller. Today, using our lifts and shop we are helping them replace a leaky engine oil pan on one of their trucks. Inter-municipal sharing quietly occurs frequently between towns, villages, cities & the state and county. We share trucks, loaders, unique tools and equipment etc... which makes us all safer and more efficient. It doesn't get the press it deserves. This is a great example; We have access to their large roller and they have access to out truck lifts. Saved us a roller rental fee and saved them a truck repair bill.
Making short work of a large snow pile at the Clinton School. There is a row of shipping containers where we usually push the snow.
Volume up...... Nuff said
Progress on the newest member of the fleet
If it was only this easy!

Happy April 1st!
