Hardest thing as a Firefighter to hear!

The Knapp Creek Fire Department is saddened as we mourn the loss of one of our most prominent members, Harvard M. Hitchcock, who passed away early Saturday morning. Harv has been a mainstay firefighter of our department for 65 years including 14 as chief and was instilled as a Life Member. He was always there for us for everything, whether answering an emergency call, practices, fundraising, or the toughest of work sessions. He was always willing to give advice and mentorship to anyone who asked for it and was a friend to all who knew him. His experience and leadership will be sadly missed. Rest in peace Harv, as your work here is complete. We will take it from here.

New York State burn ban to begin March 16 Isabella Colello NEW YORK (WWTI) To prevent pollution and wildfires, a statewide burn ban will begin next week.... The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will enforce an annual spring burn ban starting March 16 and continue through May 14, 2021. According to the DEC, the annual ban has decreased spring wildfires nearly 43% percent since 2009. New York State burn ban in place beginning March 16 The DEC reported that the risk for wildfires in the spring season is heightened due to the rapid snow melt and drying of vegetation. Additionally, as temperatures rise throughout the spring, last years autumn vegetation can easily spread wildfires, even if at first contained. Ad Forest Rangers, DEC Environmental Conservation Police Officers (ECOs), and local authorities will be enforcing the burn ban. Biden executive orders impact Adirondack Park environment, communities Violators of the state’s open burning regulation are subject to both criminal and civil enforcement actions, with a minimum fine of $500 for a first offense. To report environmental law violations, such as burning during the ban, residents are urged to call 1-800-847-7332, or report online on DEC’s website.

Due to Coronavirus 19 spread, restrictions and mandates, the Knapp Creek Volunteer Fire Dept Annual ATV Dice Run is cancelled for September 2020. We feel compelled to act safely on behalf of our members, volunteers, vendors and riders. We thank you for your previous support in making this a top notch fundraiser for our department, enabling us to provide Fire, EMS and Rescue services for Knapp Creek and the surrounding communities. The 2021 ATV Dice Run is scheduled and plans are in effect for the September 18, 2021 event. Update: it's been found! If anyone happened to pick up a grey tailgate cover for a Polaris general at the dice run please let us know, and we can get it back to its owner. It was last seen leaning up against a picnic table at the fire hall. Thanks everyone!
