The Federal Reserve lowered its benchmark interest rate Tuesday by half a percentage point-brings the benchmark interest rate range down to 1% to 1.25%. This is the first rate cut outside of a scheduled meeting since the global financial crisis in 2008.That cut, along with a rock-bottom 10-year Treasury yield, means mortgage rates are poised to head even lower.
