Our old trusty grinder-mixer needed some repairs this past week. We had to wait for some aftermarket parts for a little bit since they aren't around anymore Sooo, the cows got to try some cornmeal from a farmer who is a friend of ours nearby for the week. His grind is a bit more fine than ours but there were no complaints Love when local farms can work together
Cold frame is coming along! Perennials are spaced and looking fine and the short-season veggies are emerging! Second cold frame for next year??

Granulated Maple Sugar batches 1, 2 & 3 for the day! To make 3 consecutive batches takes a little over 1 hour from start to finish The finished product can be a substitute for white or brown sugar in cooking and baking and has a nice light maple flavor

Weather cycles are important for farms. As much as we love hot, dry days for baling hay, rain is welcomed for Fall tillage and catching up on paperwork. We haven't had rain since September 12th, 16 days. We are done with dry hay for the year and will be working on making some baleage in the next week or so. This field was planted into rye this morning for a straw crop next year. Joey and I are both looking forward to the forecasted rain this week to bottle syrup and water in the rye seeding
Calling all Very Dark Maple Syrup lovers!!! Joey just started bottling from a barrel of Very Dark syrup and it has a wonderfully strong flavor, great for marinating meats and baking! Quarts, Pints, Half Pints and Gallons will be available at Kwilos Farm Stand in the next few days.
