2020 has been an eye opener to say the least... yes? The biggest lessons I’ve learned there’s no moment like the NOW don’t wait to create the life you desire (tomorrow isn’t promised) ... always be grateful don’t take anything for granted especially the smallest things always keep a little space for the miracles I was looking at my @cultivatewhatmatters planner and realized I’ve fallen short on some of my goals. Usually I’d lament and go into this self loathe. But this year I gave thanks for the goals that were checked off, completed and even tried. SUCCESS! Then of the ones I fell short on, I had to ask myself which ones still stirred at my heart string. If we’re going to be totally honest, we’ve grown this 2020. Some of the things we started the year labeling as necessary have deemed, to me, so trivial now. And the best things which manifested were the ones which were neither goals nor plans. The deep desires I’ve been afraid to share, by fear of them being too big, too much, too ambitious or fail at. I was able to make a difference in the lives of those I worked with this year- that’s the most important thing to me- to serve! I’m sharing a beautiful studio space with someone I’ve admired and been inspired by for years! I’ve made the ask, followed through, and tried a few things I’ve been afraid to be judged on in the past when it came to being assertive in business. ... and so much more! Statically I understand 1 in 4 pregnancies result in miscarriages. As a trained medical professional I get that. However, my mother’s heart doesn’t comprehend this notion. I remember hearing my very first baby’s heartbeat. This little thing on the screen with such a strong heart!?!?!? I was impressed. For my next appointment I asked my grandma and little sister to join in and experience this with me. It was the first baby in the family in a long while. And I’ll never forge...t the silence when the probe laid on my belly. My sister had her phone ready to record, and my grandma was rolling the beads of her rosary per usual. I didn’t look at my doctor. I was trying to find the right words to explain what was happening to my, then, 15yo sister and translate for my grandmother. I remember my sister sobbing, my grandma being stoic and I remember my doctor searching for the right words. To this day I’m never at ease on sonogram day. To this day I’m never certain of the outcome. To this day I still remember. To this day ... I’m still healing. Every other story after this is a version of this first one. And I’m sure you can find part of your story in mine. I made a conscious decision to share my experience early on with some trusted individuals whom I know would provide a safe space for me to speak up and cry about this without feeling like a burden. That’s when I realized how true the #1in4pregnanciesendinloss is, I was surrounded by women who shared my experience. They provided this safe haven for me where I was able to be vulnerable and heal. This is why it warms my heart when my clients rave about how safe they feel diving into their vulnerability in front of my lens.
