Today is National Medal of Honor Day, recognizing our nation's highest and most prestigious military decoration. Presented to roughly 3,500 recipients since its... founding during the Civil War, the medal symbolizes the timeless American ideals of courage, sacrifice, patriotism, citizenship, integrity, and commitment. Oswego’s Dr. Mary E. Walker remains the only woman to receive this recognition. The women of the Oswego City Police Department honor Dr. Walker’s memory and accomplishments this day. In celebration of National Women’s History Month, OPD would also like to honor the women who shape our agency.

On Saturday, members of the Lake City Police Club constructed a new front porch at an East Seventh Street residence as part of a community give-back project, ...according to officials. Lowe’s Oswego provided additional manpower and materials for the effort, which leaders of the policeman’s union said was motivated by the unsafe previous condition of the porch. A family recently purchased and moved into the home, officials said.
