If it weren’t for my bee suit I would be covered in ticks. I’ve never had such a tick problem before.
Time to put some supers on and wash some mites.
The bees were taking in some pollen sub Thursday and Friday. This was nice to see as when we opened hives the clusters were quite large and March and April are tough weather months here in upstate NY.
Have you visited Local Palate in Phelps, NY yet? They have Lake Effect Honey and lots of quality local foods. Not to mention they have yummy healthy ready to go meals. @localpalate_flx
Cafe Aqueduct at 201 E Main St in Palmyra is now offering Lake Effect Honey for their beverages and they have a stock of honey for sale!
We restocked the honey at Secor Home and Hardware in Newark. They have added a lot of honey bee themed items as well!
Finally, some signs of spring peeking out from under the snow here in northern New York. Skunk cabbage is usually one of the first things I see in the woods to let me know that spring is around the corner.
We just restocked the honey shed with honey, creamed honey, some herbals, and a few fun things too. The driveway is plowed as well and the parking space is clear. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, give me a call.
Propolis infused oil for future projects.
A quick look at a midwinter beehive.
Today’s honey experiment is our raw honey and Eschscholzia californica, or California poppy. I can think of a few ways to use this honey....
I just whipped up a jar of cream Honey. From this I will make this more of this winter‘s future jars of whipped, or creamed honey of various flavors.
This is my 6 year old Bay Leaf (Bay laurel, Laurus noblis) tree. I know she is in need of a good pruning. She puts up with me cutting about 1/4 of her leaves off a few times per year, and suffers through our upstate New York winters in a corner of my creating area. I am always thankful to be able to grown my own food and herbs.
A selfie with some of our nucs. They need checking more often than the full size hives. We will give them some dry sugar if it looks like they may starve, but so far so good.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Thank You for supporting our local business.
