A call to action and plead for help from all of our beachcomber friends. There is definitely an increase of people enjoying these spring days by walking the beach collecting goodies. Please be kind to Mother Earth and bring an extra bag with you to collect some of the plentiful plastics and other garbage debris that are easier to find than the beach glass and hidden treasures that you use metal detectors to find. Remember that without clean shorelines we wouldn’t have the luxury of enjoying them!

Nice time to come down to the center with your binoculars/spotting scopes and observing from the outdoor observation deck some waterfowl...Anseriformes. They are an order of birds that comprise about 180 living species in three families: Anhimidae (the 3 screamers), Anseranatidae (the magpie goose), and Anatidae. It is the birds of the family, Anatidae which you will see. They are the largest family, which includes over 170 species of waterfowl, among them the ducks, geese,... and swans. Not a very great image but we believe these are Red Breasted Mergansers. Bird watchers feel free to interject and correct the ID.

A very calm ice-free Lake Erie for January 31st. When is that monster lake effect storm coming?

Lake Erie is ‘eerily’ calm before (between?) the storms! Just wait....
