91 years ago this month, early 20th c. American-Norwegian #expressionist painter Jonas Lie (1880-1940) spent the month of February at Lake Kora having been commissioned by then owner Francis P. Garvan to paint the Great Camp. With cheerful colors and simple naturalism, his paintings chronicle its buildings, the landscape around them, the lake & island, birch groves and Home Pond. Lie is best known for his American landscape paintings of New York & New England. Governor of NY (1897-1902) and served under Theodore Roosevelt when he was Governor of NY & also after he became President. They had a great relationship. President Roosevelt stated of Woodruff, He was my staunch friend throughout the term of our joint service. In 1903, Woodruff invited President Roosevelt, a lover of the #adirondacks, to Lake Kora.
