Happy 18th birthday to our own member Caleb. The company had a little surprise birthday party after our meeting. It’s a pleasure to have him and his father such active members of your company.

Why do I see so many firetrucks across Monroe after the fire whistle sounds? It’s All About The Water and Supplying The Manpower. There are 3 Fire Companies and... 4 Firehouses within the Monroe Joint Fire District. The Monroe Joint Fire District provides fire protection for the entire Town of Monroe and a small section of the Town of Woodbury. Our Villages within the Town of Monroe have fire hydrants for water supply. Most locations outside of our Villages do not have fire hydrants for fire suppression. These zones are considered non-hydrant areas. Most of our fire fighting apparatus cab interiors can transport between 6 and 8 firefighters on each piece of apparatus. Water and Firefighters are needed to put out fires! Our assigned fleet in the Mombasha Fire Company currently carries about 2800 gallons of water between our two attack engines and two ladder trucks. Today, a serious fire in a non-hydrant area of Monroe, will draw a substantial apparatus rig response from our entire Monroe Fire Department, the Monroe Joint Fire District. This includes our tankers that carry large amounts of water. We rely on an Engine assigned to Lakeside Fire and Rescue and a Tanker assigned to the Harriman Engine Company as our water supply tankers to get water to the scene of our fires. Those two rigs combined carry about 5,800 gallons of water. Additionally, we will place a lot of our district rigs on the road when we need water in non-hydrant residential and commercial areas of the Town of Monroe. Rigs assigned to the Harriman Engine Company carry 5,500 gallons of water and rigs assigned to Lakeside Fire and Rescue carry 5,000 gallons of water. Combined the MJFD apparatus from all three Companies carry about 13,300 gallons of water. That’s a lot of water and sometimes we use it all and demand even more. When we need more water or more firefighters our mutual aid partners from surrounding communities will respond and bring more water and even more manpower. Each of the Fire Companies within the Monroe Joint Fire District are always seeking new volunteers. Interested members of the community 16 years of age or older that have resided in Monroe for 1 year or more are encouraged to stop by after any fire call or on a Monday evening to fill out an application for membership.

Hundreds of Firefighters, Police, EMS, from Rockland County were joined by departments from Orange County & New Jersey for a drive-by to wish a Happy Birthday t...o the son of fallen Spring Valley Firefighter Jared Lloyd. His son turned 6-year-old today. This breathtaking show of support demonstrates the bond and strength of the first responder community in times of tragedy. Over 100 hundred trucks or apparatus would be take part and it lasted for 40 minutes. A GoFundMe page has been created for the family of Lloyd. Every day, RPD officers respond to calls, often alongside our local volunteer fire fighters and EMS workers. We all learn to work together, and we often become ...friends. Today, there was a somber mood in the Ramapo Police Department. We lost a friend, a fellow first responder, and a true hero. Our hearts break for the family and friends of fallen fire fighter Jared Lloyd. To all of the firemen and firewomen who are mourning the loss of their brother, Jared, we mourn with you. We thank Jared for his service to our community and for making the ultimate sacrifice, as he saved the lives of others. See more
