GUIDED HIKES:: We’re partnering with our friends at Up Yonda Farm, Environmental Education Center for some free naturalist guided hikes at LGLC preserves! ...Explore the trails at Godwin Preserve (May 7 & 29) and Gull Bay Preserve(June 19) for some fantastic spring finds both preserves have lots of vernal pools teeming with springtime life, and the surrounding forests and ponds are equally fascinating to explore. These hikes are about 2 miles round-trip and moderate, with some short-distanced elevation changes. Appropriate for ages 6 and up. Big news historic marker fans ... The first-ever National Historic Marker Day is going to be this year on Friday, April 30! The official announcement goes out ...tomorrow. National Historic Marker Day is all about showing community pride by cleaning historic markers, having some fun outdoors and recognizing your local history. There will be more information out tomorrow on the William G. Pomeroy Foundation Facebook page, including a marker cleaning guide (video and PDF). I work for the Pomeroy Foundation and I'm very excited to share this news with this great group! Get ready for April 30 (and that weekend)! COOK MOUNTAIN VIDEO PREMIERE: Protection of the land is critical to the protection of the lake. Our Cook Mountain Preserve in Ticonderoga was donated in 1990 b...y the Delano family, who owned the 176 acres since 1876 when it was farmed for maple and apples. The preserve now harbors a variety of habitats, from moist wetlands and overgrown farmland to mixed hardwood/coniferous forest and dry rocky-summit grassland. The preserve, inhabited by beavers over the years, is now naturally transitioning into a beaver meadow, full of native plants, flowers and wetland critters. The property is great for hikers and explorers of all ages and includes the steeper Ridges trail which climbs to a summit with stunning views east over Ticonderoga and into Vermont and south down Lake George. The LGLC is excited to release this Find Your Happy Place video series, filmed and produced by Luke Pelli of Pelli Productions, featuring some of our most loved preserves: The Pinnacle, Amy's Park, Pilot Knob and Cook Mountain.
