Making Great Progress! Our new building at 701 W. Court St. is starting to take shape. West End Heights is a 60 unit mixed use apartment building offering both affordable housing and supportive housing. The apartments will fill a need in Ithaca, an area with low vacancy rates and high rental costs for quality housing. Check back often for progress updates!
Parents, you aren't alone. Children are having feelings about the upcoming school year, too. Let them freely express emotions. Validation can help. #NYTough #MentalhealthMatters

Leave Fireworks to the Experts The National Safety Council advises everyone to enjoy fireworks at public displays conducted by professionals and not to use any fireworks at home. They may be legal but they are not safe. Stay back at least 500 feet from fireworks for your safety and to avoid permanent hearing loss. Wear ear plugs to protect your hearing. Earmuffs are recommended for children under age seven. If consumer fireworks are legal to buy where you live and you choose ...to use them, the National Safety Council offers the following safety tips: Never allow children to handle fireworks Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands Never light them indoors Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material Never point or throw fireworks at another person Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting Never ignite devices in a container Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire Never use illegal fireworks Sparklers Are Dangerous Every year, young children can be found along parade routes and at festivals with sparklers in hand, but sparklers are a lot more dangerous than most people think. Sparklers burn at about 2,000 degrees hot enough to melt some metals. Sparklers can quickly ignite clothing, and children have received severe burns from dropping sparklers on their feet. Consider using safer alternatives, such as glow sticks, confetti poppers or colored streamers. Last but not least, have fun and do so in a safe manner so you don’t end up a statistic and at the emergency room this weekend. Make it a safe and happy Fourth of July! See more
