Lamp Lighter Art Gallery & Studios

We are looking for models for our portrait drawing class. This opportunity is open to anyone (regardless of age, sex, race) who would be interested in sitting and holding a pose for two-2 hr sessions per month. (ie. Two Tuesday’s from 6-8). Sitter/model will receive compensation which will vary depending on how many artists attend. Sitter/model will also receive a portrait of their choice from one of the artists. Our Paint with the Masters class last Thursday brought out an old acquaintance and a new student to our class. Amy joined us to paint The Scream. She did an amazing job!!

Our paint with the masters class returns this Thursday at the Lamplighter. We will be painting this classic painting by Giacometti Balla. $20 if you have your own supplies. $30 otherwise. Class starts at 6:30 pm. Text 957-7778 to register.

Dody Walter’s show was awesome! Does this lady know how to throw a party or what? Can’t believe she is 90!

Dody Walter Art Show Opening Thursday The Niagara Art Trail is pleased to present Country Strokes: An Exhibit and Sale of Watercolor & Acrylic Paintings by Do...dy Walter. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, August 29th from 6:30 pm 8:00 pm at Lamp Lighter Art Gallery & Studios 16 Main St, Middleport, NY 14105. Everyone is welcome to this free family friendly event. Light refreshments will be served including cake in celebration of Dody’s 90th birthday which is the same day as the opening. Dody started painting in 1956 and hasn’t stopped since. Her first art class was at Barker High School taught by Lockport’s own Joseph Whalen. Self-described as nothing fancy, just a country girl, Dody’s subject matter includes landscapes, country settings, historic sites, and flowers. She is also widely known for her personal favorite, snow scenes. To know Dody is to love her. Her sense of humor, bright personality, and modest country girl roots come to life through her interaction with those around her and also in her paintings. If you don’t know Dody, this is a perfect opportunity to meet her and introduce yourself to her art work and say happy birthday while enjoying a slice of cake. The exhibit will have a variety of original works for sale as well as prints, greeting cards, and a 2020 wall calendar featuring thirteen of Dody’s paintings (one per month plus the cover). She will be honored to sign calendars for those who wish. Over 125 of her images have been turned into greeting cards, so between the calendars and cards you can very reasonably take home a sampling of her work if an original or print doesn’t fit your budget. The exhibit will remain on display through Saturday, September 21st. Gallery is open irregular hours; when studio artists are there working and during classes. Other hours are by appointment only. Dody Walter is turning 90 tomorrow!!! She will be celebrating her 90th at the Lamplighter Gallery. We are honored to be hosting this show. She will have about 40 pieces of art on display. Come on out and wish her a happy birthday from 6:30-8pm at 16 Main Street in Middleport.

On this day 7 years ago we had our grand opening at the Lamplighter Gallery. The orchestra from Roy-Hart marched in dressed in their white shirts and black dress pants and played Beethoven’s 5th, Mike Meal played some of his original songs and and Kim Meal sang a song she wrote. Other friends performed while family and friends, some of whom traveled a long way, looked at the artwork and mingled. It was such a beautiful day and I was so proud of the effort that everyone put i...n to their art, their music and the work that went in to taking a huge wide open space and turning it into a place to get together to share their creativity. Today the Lamplighter is home to 9 artists. Nine!! We’ve come a long way since 2012 and we’ve showcased many great artists along the way. We’re forever evolving and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported our little gallery! Ps. Kim Meal made this beautiful sign which hangs above our front door. .
