While you were sleeping, three stolen vehicles, a carjacking, crash and police chase all took place early this morning. That’s why the Harrison PD is reminding ...the public again to please remove your valuables and lock vehicles each night. At 5:20 a.m., Harrison patrol officers identified a stolen vehicle being operated on Westchester Avenue near lower Purchase Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled, leading us on a pursuit along Purchase Street and into Rye and Port Chester. In Port Chester, the driver lost control and crashed the stolen car in Port Chester. The driver ran toward an occupied vehicle, which fled because officers were approaching. The suspect was then able to force a woman out of her car and flee in her vehicle. He subsequently lost control of that vehicle, striking multiple objects along the roadside. He ran from that car, which subsequently caught on fire. Officers from multiple departments, including Rye PD , Port Chester and Westchester County responded to assist HPD in a search for the suspect, who eluded capture. Follow-up investigation revealed the reason why: it appears he was quickly able to find an unlocked car with the fob inside and use it to leave the area. That car was recovered later in the day in West Haven, Conn. This incident began with a car stolen in Connecticut where it was left unlocked and unattended with the engine running. It concluded with a suspect who was able to get away because he almost immediately found an unlocked car with a fob inside as police closed in. Our officers continue to diligently patrol our community in the overnight hours. We are vigilant in seeking to identify stolen cars or persons committing vehicle larcenies in our community. But we need everyone’s help to make our community and our county a less-attractive target for these thieves. So we will say it again: Remove all valuables from your car at night; Lock the car; Take your keys or fob inside with you. If you observe any suspicious persons or vehicles, do not confront them and call the police right away.

Larchmont Patrolman Arthur Dematte was brutally murdered on October 12, 1976. His killer, Anthony Curtis Blanks (DIN 78A0538) is scheduled to have another parole hearing this June 2020. The Larchmont PBA is once again asking for members of the public to follow the link below, complete the form and demand the NYS Parole Board deny parole for this convicted cop killer. https://doccs.ny.gov/form/letters-in-support-or-opposition... Attached to this post is a letter urging Blanks parole denial written by retired and now deceased Detective Ralph Santoliquido in the 2001. It describes Patrolman Arthur Dematte's final moments and the circumstances of his murder in powerful detail. As always, the members of the Larchmont Police Benevolent Association show our respect to the Dematte family and keep them in our thoughts.
