Palermo was lovely. The most beautifully situated town in the world it dreams away its life in the Conca d’Oro, the exquisite valley that lies between two seas. The lemon groves and the orange gardens were entirely perfect. - Oscar Wilde If you missed the two podcasts I did with Katy Clarke of Untold Italy, have a listen and see why Palermo is special. Do not overlook a stay in this city. There is magnificent history at every corner, great markets, a fabulous Opera House ...and more. Have a listen to episodes #36 about Palermo itself and #43 about Excursions from Palermo. You'll enjoy the virtual vacation. www.untolditaly . com/podcasts #palermo #palermocity #lovesicily #sicilytourism #sicilytravel #CultureCapital #culturetravel #italytrip #vacationtime #travelblogger #toursandtravels #visitsicily #travelpodcast #virtualtraveller #virtualtravel #palermitano #sicilypodcast

I think this is going to be so much fun to watch! We've all heard about the homes for one euro, well our actress friend Lorraine Bracco bought one in Sambuca di Sicilia and this show will chronicle the journey with local experts. The beautiful town of Salemi just announced that they, too will offer one euro homes. I'll writ more about that later. I can't wait to live vicariously! The new HGTV series is called "My Big Italian Adventure." It starts this Friday Oct. 30, at 9:00... EST. #sambucadisicilia #HGTV #renovations #smalltownsicily #newhouse #architecture #lorrainebracco HGTV #sicily #sicilianjourney #livingvicariously #visitsicily #virtualtravel

Today is World Pasta Day. Of course there is a World Pasta Day. Everyone loves pasta. It's a day definitely worth celebrating with your favorite one. There are hundreds of shapes. There is fresh, dried, or gluten free. Pasta brings us together at the table. Made by your grandmother or bought at the store, it is fun to eat, substantial, and so satisfying. Thomas Jefferson is the first on record to have made pasta in this country, having enjoyed some in Naples. The dish, in a...ll its iterations, really took hold in America around the time of immigration, though, when masses of people came over from Sicily, where we all know the history of pasta began! A favorite food? You bet. In our house, everyone knows my husbands incredible lasagna and linguine with clam sauce, and our son's carbonara. The kids grew up with pastina and chicken broth on sick days (just like I did!) Pasta? I love it all, but if Pasta alla Norma is on the menu, that's what I have to have. What is your favorite pasta dish??

Episode 43 is live now and you can listen to me talk about excursions from Palermo. If you listen to podcasts at all, Untold Italy is a terrific one to subscribe to. It's very well done and Katy Clarke always has interesting guests that talk about many different aspects of travel to Italy - all experts in their areas with interesting and valuable things to share. I'm grateful Katy chose me to be her guest on three separate episodes. Fun times.... Please enjoy. #Palermo #sicilypodcast #sicilytravel #sicilytourism #visitsicily #marsala #travelblogger #travelgram #vacation #virtualtravel #dreamingofsicily #lovesicily

I received an email last week from someone at the office of The Region of Sicily that surprised me. Here is what it said: "We are proud of your Promotion for our Island. Let's hope for better times. The key for success is the Determination, the Passion and the Love for our job. Unity is strength. Thanks a lot.... I stared at the screen. It was so, so gratifying to read this. It is an opportunity for me to again say thank you to my clients, my followers on FB, on Instagram and YouTube, those who love reading my monthly news, to my wonderful guides and colleagues in Sicily. I have a relationship with so many of you that engages and motivates me every day. What else can I say, but thank you for being on this journey with me. 1. If you would like to receive my newsletters, please send me a PM or DM with your email address. 2. Can you hazard a guess as to where these photos were taken?? Here are two wonderful initiatives that I read about recently. Sicily is quite enterprising. Aromathica is a brand of organic dried herbs, cold dried to preserve the color, smell and taste. They are grown on a farm, not far from Segesta, that will eventually have 70,000 plants. They have 50,000 now. Their aim? The project is run by a non-profit agency and the money from sales goes to helping people in need. I also read about a company that is processing citrus rinds. To util...ize the tons of waste created by producing citrus products, and fortify bread so it has fiber, more nutrients and a longer shelf life, the rinds will be ground very finely and a small percentage added to the flour. After baking, the result has a hint of citrus flavor but otherwise is, well, bread! Improving health benefits and using waste simultaneously - great motivation to experiment. I am always inspired by projects like these that aim to improve the lives of people. Even in small ways, they help to improve health and create jobs, they care for the planet with thoughtfulness. A place that lives as close to nature as Sicily does, recognizes how important it is to treat nature with TLC. Mother nature does what she has to. The rest is up to us. #pane #bread #bakingbread #herbsinsicily #driedherbs #nonprofitsicily #sicilianentrepreneurs #agrumi #sicilian #sicilianoranges #citrus #Sicily #sicilia #fruitinsicily #farmsicily

The stats: "A new study showed 188 million Americans are ready to hit the road again...as travel ranked near the top in creating happy memories for respondents. (Duh) 134 million Americans say travel has given them lifelong memories, while 90 percent count travel created some of their happiest moments. Another 54 percent said travel memories are more important than their favorite piece of jewelry and 53 percent say those memories are more important than their smartphone.... Overall, 94 percent of respondents who travel plan to do so once restrictions and limitations are lifted, while another 66 percent plan to make travel a priority and take bucket list trips. 66 percent of respondents vow to quit putting off taking trips on their wish list and make their dream vacations a reality. 63 percent said making memories with loved ones is one of the most important reasons they travel and 57 percent believe the people who accompany them are what make their trips unforgettable." All of this is an excuse for me to post random dreamy pictures of Sicily. Please send me a private message if you want to receive my monthly newsletter that includes travel information, virtual travel recommendations, fun and photos. #travelgram #travelblogger #visitsicily #virtualtravel #sicilytourism #sicilytravel #lovetraveling #experiencesicily #offthebeatenpath #dreamvacations #dreamingofsicily

I felt the need to go visit some old friends and, crippled by the obvious, I walked across the park. I had a wonderful, transporting couple of hours at the Met Museum. I visited Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, complete with her 'polos' or headpiece (4th C. BC). Imagine what she must've looked like when she was gilded, painted, and wearing earrings. I visited the almighty Zeus (we had a few words...could you DO something? Please?). I visited Dionysus, from the 1st c...entury and I toasted him with an imaginary Etna wine. But, wow, "The Dancing Woman" from the 3rd c. BC. Isn't she something? I just stared for awhile. The museum was pretty empty. It was late afternoon and although a timed ticket is required for entry, the QR sign code made it easy. Being in a museum where there was so much art and beauty was restorative. I must say, I slept better. #metmuseum #demeter #Zeus #dionysus #bacchus #archeology #sicilytravel #virtualtravel #culturaltravel #greekmythology #romanmythology #greekhistory

Have you been reading about the Giro d'Italia bike race that started in Sicily this week? It is making me remember my own epic biking there. They and we both started in Monreale. 12 years and I still remember that downhill! Visiting a place on a bicycle is fabulous. You can really go into the nooks and crannies and do it with locals so you get a local perspective. I learned and tasted a lot on that ride. It made me feel such so intimately connected to the land and sure gave m...e a lot of stories to tell! I have since booked tours for some who had to return to see Sicily again. Are you a cyclist? Sicily is hilly, but with hills come vistas! #biking #bikesicily #vistas #boutiquetours #larosaworks #sicilytour #sicilytravel #adventuretravel #tourstosicily #dreamingoftravel #discoversicily Ciclismo Classico Nicolosi
