LFD Remembers Ex- Chief Steve Kruegler, Key #95 The officers and members of the Latham Fire Department mourn the loss of Ex-Chief and Life Member Steve Kruegler, who passed away at age 71 on November 20, 2020. Steve joined the department in 1968 serving the department in many capacities, most prominently as Chief of Department in 1980 and 81. His late father Joe and son Mark are also life members of the department. Steve received one of the highest honors of our department wh...en he was awarded his 50- year badge in 2018. He worked tirelessly on behalf of the membership as a member of the executive committee, Board of Directors, Building trustees, and rehabilitation committee of Latham Station #2. Current Chief of Department Vince Giovannone remembered Steve in this way: Steve was not only an Ex-Chief but served in many other capacities including Chair of the Board of Directors and Trustee. He was the kind of person always willing to help out and was good for advice on many different topics not only related to the firehouse but on many other areas and subjects. Steve was the kind of guy who knew something about everything, he never ceased to amaze me in what he knew on such diverse topics. I will miss our conversations at Station #2 on firefighting tactics, leadership, life experience stories and above all our discussion on various science topics. Our members and officers honored Steve during visitation and funeral service on November 24, 2020. His obituary can be viewed here: https://dufresneandcavanaugh.com//Stephen-K/obituary.html
