Laurel Booking

Show announcement at Galaxy Brewing Company coming Wednesday morning.

So, upon my hour+ long looking back at shows and stuff, I found that I've booked: 36 acts - ONLY The Purple Room 13 acts - ONLY Chenango Stage... 4 acts - ONLY Downstairs at LB/Arcade 6 acts - BOTH The Purple Room AND Chenango Stage 3 acts - BOTH The Purple Room AND Downstairs at LB 3 acts - BOTH The Purple Room AND Downstairs at LB, AND at Chenango Stage All approximate because I'm pretty scatterbrained and may have missed something. It goes without saying, thank you to everyone who's ever supported this venue, or me in any capacity in doing this. Upon looking back at all of the shows/event pages, I would roughly put it at approximately 25 shows that were booked at The Purple Room in the 9 months it was running. To be totally transparent, a few of these bands I noted in these numbers, were from the 5 shows that I DIDN'T primarily book, but heavily helped out with. Also, in the spirit of transparency, the total "earnings" that I made off of running this venue was essentially nought. I suppose the cash that I was able to fairly take home after a few shows covered the cost of some of my sound equipment. Sorry for the long message here, I just felt a lack of validation today with my longing to solely run a venue again and financially and time-wise not being able to do that. I love all of you, and hope to see you at the next show! PS, I'm still "booking" but mostly for my own band, so I felt it'd be a not OK thing to do to self promote on my objectively based/ran promotion/booking "agency." Boy thats weird calling this an "agency." Whatever it is, I'll be back at it again soon enough. -Micah

Hi all! Quick favor - if you've ever played at The Purple Room/Upstairs at Laurel Bowl, or know anyone who's played here, comment on this post tagging the band. I want to make a HUGE playlist for all of the bands/acts I booked in the 9 months and 30+ shows that I ran this venue! On a side note, I am still scouring the area for a new space to start a DIY venue to serve the Binghamton DIY community. There's no doubt in my mind that if properly managed, we could sustain a suc...cessful ~75 person capacity venue for the smaller shows in the area. Patience. There will be a new venue soon enough. Side note: If the new space I procure ends up being on a second floor again, I WILL NOT allow overselling/exceeding capacity under ANY circumstances. -Micah :)

I am saddened to type what I am about to type. I'm going to be done promoting shows through this page after the show at Galaxy on 8/11 with Off With Their Heads. There are many reasons why: some good, some bad. I financially CANNOT go on doing shows the way I have been. There are hundred of people in this area who would genuinely love going to shows, if they'd only come out. I only just started to notice a built-in crowd at my old venue, The Purple Room.... At The Purple Room, I received many compliments as to the venue, the dedication, and the space itself. It was a perfect space to do local shows, and for smaller DIY touring groups. I put on over 30 shows in 10 months *mostly* single-handedly and that volume of shows is what I intend to do with the new venue. When the catastrophe happened to the floor in early March, and I was unable to use the venue anymore, I was so disheartened, discouraged and sad. That carried on through my booking and promoting through other venues. I haven't felt the same about booking since using other spaces, and having a slightly less "DIY feel." I LOVE The Chenango Stage, and I LOVE Galaxy Brewing Company, but for the shows I'm booking and the frequency of them, I can't always do them at the larger spaces which has caused me to book less. This is where the reasons get better.... My plan is to start a lease at a space in September this year, and work on creating a venue and a SAFE SPACE for EVERY genre. I want a soft opening in December or January, and with the help of my very good friends in Yard Party, Shout At The Robots, Second Suitor, and a very special friend Kevin Kober, this is a very realistic goal. There's an unfortunate shortage of venues the second half of this year. But that wont be for long. I intend to fill the void in this area. And I intend to create a safe space for everyone. All inclusive. All ages. Always good vibes. Always welcoming. For every genre and every type of event suited to the space. Help this area. Go to shows. Have a good time. Tell EVERYONE.
